Swelling below vent, should I be worried??

I noticed yesterday that my hen Nesty (black australorps) is swollen below her vent, about the size of a lemon. The skin is reddish and it is warm to the touch. It doesn't seem to be tender; she lets me feel it without complaint. she seems to be eating, drinking and acting normally, and I think...

I think it's sour crop, what to do

thanks cynthia so basically, I should keep her on just water for the next day or so no matter what it is? I guess I'll see how her crop feels tomorrow. right now it does feel pretty hard, but when I was massaging her crop she was kind of burping in a really stinky way. I wish I had more...

I think it's sour crop, what to do

thank you for the advice. I think I pushed upward on her crop once this morning, when she "threw up" a bunch, but she seems to be OK. I hope I didn't make her worse... I'm going to bring her in the house now with just ACV water for the next day. I'll keep you updated. I'm also going to...

I think it's sour crop, what to do

Hi all, My hen Polka Dot has been doing some weird movements with her neck and head, definitely after she eats. She bobs her head up and down and side to side. someone suggested that it might be a crop problem, so this morning I went out to check her crop first thing and it was kind of big and...

Help! worried about hen doing weird movements with her head and neck

thanks for the advice, I'm going to start giving her yogurt, and separate her out from the rest. I'm also going to check her crop tomorrow morn. she seemed to kind of throw up liquid the other day, so maybe it's a sour crop... poor Polka Dot!

Help! worried about hen doing weird movements with her head and neck

Hi there, One of my hens has been doing this freaky thing-- bobbing her head up and down and side to side. she stretches her neck up tall first then bobs it around. She does it in short spurts, then stops, then starts again. I've never seen her or any of my other 13 hens do this before...

Feather loss, picking? what to do?!

thanks all for your responses! I think you are right about the feather loss being molting... but I'm keeping my eye on the girls. the one hen with the most lost feathers has a few things that look like ingrown hairs-- could that be new feathers growing in? thanks again!

I've only found it once a day, but the blood if red. No one in my flock seems sick; I've...
