Is there any poison for fire ants you can use safely for free-range chickens?? My son found one we think is ok called “Over ‘n Out”. We have Fire Ants n out chickens free range all over the yard.
I'm wondering (just for my own knowledge) why the Gov'ner of FL ddn't turn all the southbound lanes of Alligator Alley into northbound lanes to alleviate some of the traffic getting out? I see vid's on the Weather Channel of bumper-to-bumper traffic going north and the southbound lanes empty...
Has anyone found a cheap source of egg cartons for a dozen eggs? I’m giving eggs away since I get 6/day so I don’t want to spend $1 a carton on top of it.
My sons new mower finally came and he’s mowing tonight. He found a cardboard box in our burn pile with about 2 dozen eggs in it!! Are they good? Do a float test on them? Or just discard?
I started carrying a rake with me every time I go feed. I just shake the rake at my roo and tell him "it's you or me boy, and it's gonna be me!" and haven't had a problem since. Its worth it since otherwise he's a good rooster. And it's only me. No one else in the family.
Had a flock of 8. 1 roo. Born March 2024 so 6 months old. All hens laying. Fed them at around 4 PM one night. All there and accounted for and eating. They go to bed around 6:30-7:00ish. 4 roost on top of the garage (they get there by flying from the porch to the roof) and 4 roost on the back...
I had predicted Aug. 7 so it was pretty much expected. Anyway, now I need to switch them to Layer Feed right? And I have one roo— it’s ok if he eats it right? Up until now they’ve been on chick feed.
Hi, all. My chickens have free range of our fenced in 1.2 acre around our house. A few nights ago, my son heard squawking and went out to investigate. There was a strange dog in our yard (who got in through a broken slat in the fence we found out the next day) chasing our chickens around in the...
I bet her legs/feet were just formed differently or compressed in the egg and that's what caused the "deformity". She will probably learn to adapt but will be the first vunerable to predators in a flock.
Also, (another thing I learned at the zoo) when I looked up information in a book at that time, all the info available said baby skunks would learn to "spray" around 8 weeks or 2 months. Well, we had the baby skunks (this was another litter) in a box on the counter (kitchen-counter height) n...
Many many moons ago, my first job out of college was at the Texas Zoo. We got in a lot of critters local farmers had found/rescued/run over, etc. One was a litter of skunks some farmer found in his barn. Since we were a zoo of "indigenous animals of Texas" the director wanted to keep them. The...
