Any ideas on this boy's color? He hatched out as solid white and slowly started turning gray in his tail. Thinking splash but he doesn't have the typical splashing on other areas of his body. He's also only 5 months old so there's time for that to change. Thanks in advance!
I always use a pencil to mark eggs. The egg shells are still in the incubator with other eggs actively hatching. So I won't be able to "candle" them till maybe tomorrow. I was kinda thinking bacterial infection as well but the chicks are all nice and healthy. But how could they get a bacterial...
So I've been watching my hatch all morning and was able to catch one of my silkies fully zip and hatch herself. Never gets old! But then I noticed the inside of her shell was speckled in these tiny black dots. Is this just old blood or what? The chick from this egg is very healthy and lively...
Splash or Silver Partridge silkie roo? His coloration is a little washed out here as he has a bit more speckling than shows up in this picture. Any thoughts?
I wanted to give everyone a look at my little Silkie chick I hatched back about 5 weeks ago. This is her as a day old and again today (5 weeks). I posted a question about her coloration back when she hatched and most suggested Partridge. First, is it too soon to tell sex? She's smaller than her...
I was able to take some very quick pictures this morning of the 2 girls I'm wondering about (their sister couldn't bear to be left out so she came too lol) The picture was taken with no flash. As you can see, the silkie on the far left is very light with the chipmunking. The girl in the middle...
I wouldn't say she has "spots" on her. But she's not a solid orange color. The orange is almost splashed all over her with what looks like either a lighter orange or white color as her "base". I really wish I knew more about common terminology so I could explain this better.
Thank you Cynthia! The picture is a little blurry but the color the camera picked up on the first chick is pretty accurate. I will try to get a picture of these chicks again in the morning in natural light and with my Nikon. All the patrirdge silkie chicks I've researched are much, much darker...
I hatched out several silkies this week and I was wondering if someone could help me identify what color these "ladies" will be as they feather out. All my chicks come from 1 Blue Roo over 2 white hens... so I know the whites could throw just about anything depending on their own genetics. But...
Aww! Don't give up! I've had terrible hatches before. They are heartbreaking but you end up learning a lot of from. And shipped eggs are really tough!!! Enjoy the precious babies you did get. Any pictures?
How is everyone's hatch going?
I was very surprised to see a pip on day 18 when I went to lockdown the eggs. She ended up hatching that evening and is perfectly healthy. I have no idea how that happened as my temp and humidity stayed very steady the whole hatch. The only thing I can think of...
Day 14 here!!!!! Candled all the eggs this morning and they are developing beautifully! I'm so happy with the fertility coming from my silkie pen. A friend of mine hatched some silkies from our breeding pen last week and they all did awesome. Not a single silkie egg was infertile or...
Thank you! She knows she's the cutest <3 lol She's very vocal about it too. I can't wait to see how she feathers out. I have 9 more eggs in my own incubator due to hatch a week from Tuesday. I can't wait to see what I get
