I keep a small 1L waterer and a chick sized food trough in the coop with my girls at night. They sometimes get a little peckish in the night, and aren't afraid to let people know about it. It means if I don't let them out until 8am on my lazy days, I know they're not starving/dehydrated.
Wouldn't it be dreadful if their Christmas Tree burned their home down, they all lost their jobs and they got salmonella from store bought eggs in egg nog, ALL before Christmas?
We have 4. Our coop can hold about 20 chickens max, but I'd halve that number to house them comfortably. I'm tempted to introduce 2 more, but I'll wait for these ladies to pass their laying prime before introducing two new friends for them, to keep our egg numbers up.
