I'd say hawk based on the "feathers everywhere." My flock has gone up and down due to constant predator issues. Over the course of 4 days I lost 11 - first day 2 to hawks, 2nd day 1 to fisher cat that dug under the rocks around the fence bottom, 3rd day coyotes got into the pen (6 ft high chain...
I hear whip worm is pretty tenacious and since I have no idea how long the girls have had it do I need to reposition the coop, ie is the earth infested with their eggs? I use a deep composting method and can only imagine the worst now. ickie
I just found them in my flocks poop too after posting help my flock looks terrible. I washed everything put down new hay + DE everywhere and increased their diet to all high protien since they appeared to be moulting (taking 3 months) Coverd one girls neck which seem very red. then I was watchin...

I switched to a mix of layer and protien pellets, washed everything, restricted the diet with neighbors for dark greens or meat/meal worms/tuna. Put down the DE and have been watching them. They weigh less, most of them have vibrant red crops but two of them. They seem normal...
I've looked for lice and mites and didn't see any evidence of that I will loke today for gape worm. And Ill get some vitamins and DE food grade soil for the pen and house.

Thans,
I do deep litter their yard and coop, straw and in the fall added leaves. But sickness started before leaves. I will cut off all other foods and rake things out again and add more hay. There was a period of straight ran where I could not keep enough dry hay down(?)
M
I do not see lice or mite indications but what about Gape worm? I'll try cutting back to only grain and greens, no free ranging and DE food grade + vitamins. How long before I sould expect a response - days - weeks?
I have 9 girls mostly 2 a couple almost 3 - white rock, red rock, black and hybrids - laying an egg a day until late August when production started to dwindled until now - nothing at all. They appear as if they are molting but I think they should be past this. Some have lost feathers all over...
