Re-homed a rooster and now the hens won't leave their coop.

We had to re-home a rooster this week and ever since, our hens won't leave the coop! We used to get two eggs a day in the nest box, now we are getting one a day on the ground of the run. I haven't even seen them come out to eat! Will this pass?

Need some help with weird chicken egg laying behavior!

We have 5 hens, and have been getting exactly 2 eggs a day for about 10 days now, both in the same nesting box. Now all of a sudden, we are getting one egg a day, and it is being laid on the ground in the run! We are totally confused. We did have to rehome a rooster a couple of days ago...

What do I do with my run now that it is winter?

I have had the same problem, mostly because my coop is by a rain gutter near my house. The key is to keep the water from getting there in the first place. I don't know what you setup is, but we have put a drain on the raingutter and directed it away from the house and that has helped alot. I...

What do I do with my run now that it is winter?

Thanks for the pictures! Cute coops. I have posted some of mine on the first page. I love that your run is big and open. I feel bad that my chickens are in a 10 X 8 area. But that is all the space I have. I live in Salt Lake City and it has been in the 20's all week. But that is unusual...

    Using aquarium heaters

I am glad to read this post because I was considering going this route. My husband is discouraged that we are into our coop and 6 hens about $500.00 to get two eggs a day! I did read, however that if you got a thermocube for the heater you could increase the reliability and safety. Would you...

How do I economically heat a 2 gallon bucket with nipples watering system?

I am trying to find an economical heat source for my bucket watering system. It is the type that has the "nipples" on the bottom. I really don't want to spend $50.00 on a heat ring! I have read that you can use a fish tank heater on a timer. I am wondering if this is a good idea? Any other...

What do I do with my run now that it is winter?

LED. Okay. What if I put a light in the run? A small wattage one that would not heat the run but would just provide some additional light?

Thanks everyone for your help and kind comments!

What do I do with my run now that it is winter?

That sounds like a good idea. Where would I get some of that? A home improvement store?

    Rooster or Hen??

This Blue Wyandotte was sold to me as a hen, but I am starting to worry that those feathers might look like saddle feathers! She is about 6 months old. Can someone reassure me that she is indeed a she? Sorry the pictures are not great. She would not hold still for me!
