Fur N Feathers, I don't think I've posted on the Silkies of a Different Color thread in a while, so probably not.. but my memory stink so who knows. :) You sure have some pretty babies!
One of my pullets is developing some really pretty coloring - similar to what I've seen people call "self cream blue" I think, though it still very light. Basically she has patches of white, very light cream and self-blue. She's only about 3 - 4 months old and the patches seem to be getting...
I have a 1 week old silkie chick that I found laying on it's side opening and closing it's beak like it was choking. I picked it up and started rubbing it's neck and putting a small drop of water in it's beak every minute or so. After 5 - 10 minutes it started to chirp a little and gasp less...
I have a female with a vaulted head that still has very a swept back looking top knot and a larger comb than most of my girls. I thought she was a roo and nearly culled her when she was younger because of this, but decided to wait and see and eventually she started laying eggs.
I know...
I had a breeding pair of lavender silkies shipped from CA. They arrived Feb 5th and I just got my first egg from the hen last Wednesday, so it took her 6 weeks to lay. Thought I was going to go crazy waiting!! But now I have 3 eggs in 4 days. Hoping to get one or two more before I put them in...
Ah, that makes sense. I think I'm forming an idea of how to incorporate this idea with some other ideas I've seen and make really good use of the space we have. :) Thanks everyone! Sure am enjoying seeing everyone's coops and stuff. Soooo inspiring!
Jetdog, This is a great idea. I've been trying to figure out how to fit some nesting boxes and a roost in a small area - plus I want to keep a few birds that don't like to roost so much from sitting right under the roost and getting pooped on. This is perfect! is the poop board removable so...
That's kind of what I figured. It seems to me that you really don't know for sure until it's fully mature. I've seen fully feathered birds of a couple of moths old change quite a lot by the time they are mature. One thing I noticed is that the wing feathers that are coming in seem to have...
Yes, Blue X Blue = 50% Blue, 25% Black, 25% Splash. There is a Blue / Splash thread:

Here is a picture of a young splash chick. They look very similar to white chicks and get their splashes later.
Does this look like it could be a Paint? It's the same color as my other whites except for the spots. Who know what it might look like when it feathers out, but I've never had a chick come out with spots before.
Based on coloring I'd think it's a male (red on wings and chest) but it doesn't have much of a comb for 7 months old. Has it crowed? Is it with other males? I can see why you are confused.
Catdance (kelar) does porcelain/lavender cross breeding and I've heard of others doing the same. I've been wondering if there is a specific purpose or goal in mind.... waiting to hear more from the experts....
