For those who don't know what happened. My hens were attacked, two killed, two seriously hurt about a month ago.
Lesson #1: People lie. The lady said she'd tie up her dogs after the attack. They came back. I pulled the trigger but my husband had trigger locked the Ruger (sigh) had to throw rocks...
Hey! I live up the road from you (Nicholas County!).
What do your silkied Ameracaunas look like?! I am in love with some silkies and ameries at the moment! our flock is pretty awesome. Was curious about what would happen if I end up with a roo silkie and he likes my lady ameries....
Thanks everyone. We are working hard to save her. The vet said to try antibiotic cream or spray and keep watching her vent to be sure it doesn't protrude or prolapse. So far just turned from swelling.
Where so I find the tar??
Awesome to hear that everything is okay with this chick! I just had severe injuries in my flock and have been cruising looking for ideas of what to do. This helps. Hope the pecking order gets solved without any more injuries!
More salve tonight. Both were up while I was in there doing my night check and where I would normally close up "shop" for the day. They ate and drank in front of me and Clover stretched both her legs and wings. She did seem to baby her right leg a little. M.C. is keeping her head low, staying...
Give her a few days, vitamins, lots of rest, and separate her. Maybe soft tissue. If she's not doing better you may want to evaluate her quality of life...........
But yes, Fox will be back. Fix where it got in or she'll have better luck next time
Okay so it's gone from bad to worse. I went out and was taking care of them and I noticed that M.C.'s bottom was wet and smelled. I let her nap on my while I dematted her feathers and worked to her wound. It wasn't bad so I cleaned it up and put on my salve. I continued to let her nap and brewed...
Thank you! I'm going to get some hydrogen peroxide and am putting a salve on them in a bit. I gave them water with AC vinegar and a bit of honey and am trying to let them rest. I buried my little white girl, Hedwig
I had to separate the lesser injured, Heromine, from Clover and Mother Clucker...
One dead, one carried off, one badly injured, one pretty badly injured (she tried to protect the others), one with minor injuries. About 7 weeks old. Three dogs drug their cage brooder out, tore into it. Looks like back injuries. What do I do? I'm cleaning them as best I can but I'm scared I'll...
I'm trying to find silkies in West Virginia (holy crap it's harder than one would think!) and I have a lady who will sell me her trio (two hens and a roo) for $65. I'm wondering if that's a good price? I'm really new to this and unsure about pricing of critters :P
I agree, watch who pecks, check the feed. Another thing is that chickens will continue to peck if they see a bit of blood/tissue. They are kind of OCD. Separate the hurt chicks, find your pecker, separate them. How old are they?
Hopefully a woman near summersville. She said they are due to hatch this week but o haven't heard from her. The pet place in town is supposed to have bantam assortment this week too. If all else fails :/ I think if my lady fails through I'll be getting them from WV Struttin on here!
I haven't named everyone and would even like some input.
We have 5 Ameraucana pullets: Mother Clucker (she's bossy and will force my hands on her and off others...), Clover, Ember, and Hedwig. The last one is white and I just can't think of anything for her...
We have two khaki campbell ducks...
Picking up our silkie babies on the 4th. I'm excited about them! Our ducks move out to their run tomorrow and the ameraucanas are soon to follow. I cannot believe their colors! So unique (well except two that are white). Our rooster met our pullets today and they seemed okay.
