He has feathers growing on his legs and feet so maybe he is a mix of orpington and something else.
He hasn't moved since Saturday so no he is not eating drinking or pooping that I am aware of.
Since my backyard is tiny I really have no place to quarantine birds. Once I get my my 5 acres...
Hey all!
A couple days ago I notice he wasn't moving around much. Since then he hasn't left the coop. This morning I went out to look him over for injuries and found none. Since I don't handle my chickens being able to pick him up let alone even get near him was a red flag in of itself...
One part of my dilemma is that I live in a residential area. So putting the wire along the ground where people (kids) can easily touch it is probably not a good idea. Since the fence is a non see through design I figured across the top would be best. I will try to find someplace that can help me...
Well, I figured its time to update this thread. Due to the high cost of the carpenters cloth it has yet to be installed and I shouldn't have waited. This spring I purchased 3 new baby chicks. Last Saturday I gave one away since it turned out to be a rooster. Sunday morning the chickens were out...
I understand how an electric fence works. The animal touches the (hot) wire while standing on the ground and the current flows through. So how can I do this to the top edge of a 6' wooden fence to deter raccoons? I was thinking of running two wires. The ground wire stapled to the top edge of the...
So I put 3 new 3 month old chicks in with 2 1yr olds a week and a half ago. After the first day the babies where all crouched in the corner one bleeding. So I partitioned the coop until today. They seem a bit better but the adults are still chasing the little ones. Should I be concerned or are...
Well, after getting shot with the little pellet gun they have stayed away. I go outside periodically looking for them. Saw one in the neighbors yard and he saw me and stayed away. This weekend tho I will get the carpenters cloth up... Thanks for the help guys!
Thanks guys! I will get the mesh up this weekend. I did put a clasp on the nesting box and put those carabiners with the threaded closures on them. I already chased off two raccoons tonight. Bold little suckers too. I hit them with my weak pellet gun to get them to move on. They looked at me...
Thanks for the help! Since I have two college exams this week and a research paper due it will have to wait until next weekend. In the mean time I will go out in the evening and lock the chickens in the hen house and let them out in the morning. That should keep them safe....
Thanks guys! Building my own coop, raising chickens and finally being able to gather eggs in the mornings has been a very rewarding experience thus far. There is nothing in the world better than being self reliant/sufficient. :-)
Hi everyone!
This morning my dog was along side my bed winning at me to get up and follow her. So as I started to wake up she barked from the bedroom at something. I thought oh crap that's not good and grabbed my gun. I went to the sliding glass door and Momo my dog was growling. I slowly...
Hi everyone!
This year I built my first chicken coop after lots of surfing the net for information. I have actually visited this sight many times and left with useful information but never signed up. Now that my chickens have started laying and predators have been roaming around I figured it...
