    Chicken Run Question

I did something similar (though not as clever). However the chickens squeezed under the wire! The hardware cloth is much better (and substancially more clever). I read in a chicken magazine that each chicken needs 30 square feet of space in a run so as to not have it be dirt! 30 feet each...

    Chicken Run Question

Has anyone successfuly made a run large enough so that the chickens don't turn it to mud within a week? I have one that is 10 square feet per bird but still not large enough! I'm thinking maybe 50 square feet/bird? What do you think? Thanks

    (add your) Funny Chicken Pics!

My oldest just took the funniest chicken picture! The way it was angled it looked just like a two-head chicken! Sadly you'll have to take my word for it because i can't find the cord for the camera. Have a funny picture or two? We'd love to see them!

    Anyone else like Gertrude McCluck?

Okay, call me childish if you'd like but I love Gertrude McCluck. It's not just that its about a crime solving Buff Orpington--though it sure helps--its actually very well written and makes me have a big fat smile on my otherwise glum to neutral face whenever I read it. Anyone else here a big...

The favorite of our flock. Ours are ultra friendly and will often get in the way of what we're doing. They talk to us and, given the chance, will follow us everywhere. They are also good for free ranging due to their natural camo.

Great layers and cold hearty. Very skittish/jumpy at least mine are. 4.5 stars overall

These are one of my favorites. Their color pattern is nice. They lay through winter. Very nice. The rooster I had as a kid was meaner than anything, even attacking adults. Don't know if all roosters of the plymouth rock variety are evil though.

They do lay through winter though, so thats a plus. Yes and the 5 out of the mixed breeds we have are at the top of the pecking order. The highest on the pecking order is the "Boss Buff". She really lets the other below her know she's in charge! (We don't have a rooster.)

Buff Orpingtons are big beautiful golden-colored birds. Good mothers. Spicy personality. Good at solving crimes (Google: Gertrude McCluck) My only complaint is the Egg production: low when laying; none when broody.

Sadly all my "inventions" are in the theoretical phase (indefinitely). I admire the people that can take the idea out of their head and make it happen! Good job everyone!

    chicken tractor cheap, cheap

Gotta love Buffs (good mothers and great entertainment). I really like your coop set up. Just move it to new pasture when needed! How many chickens can fit in it? If I was handy I'd make a bunch of these. Very nice.

    newbie needs help

That would give them aprox. 1/2 feet each of roosting space if my math is some what accurate. I think that would be enough but for ours I have different levels and plenty of options and the hens choose their favorite spot so I'd go with the staggering just for the fun of it. As far as I...

    Success!

No they would slant. I hate to admit that I bought the nipples and installed them my self so that's probably the problem. If I bought a pre-made set up you think it would work properly? If anyone's bought a pre-made one that works great perhaps post a link? Thanks!

    Feeding chickens meat

So theoretically, If I fed them Enough meat for protein I could essentially cut the amount of layena (Purina brand laying feed) I feed them?
