I cleaned out all the poop and put in fresh shavings before I shut them in for the night. The heated water is outside here also. It was 5 here this morning (Saturday morning it was -5, and yesterday 54).
2 roo's have some black. Putting on Vaseline and will go to LSB tomorrow and get bag balm. Our coop is a 9 x 9 shed we converted with 20+chickens to keep it warm. The roo's are acting fine but I read when it turns black it is gangrene?
So on the topic of frostbite - what options are there if they get frostbite on their combs? I read if it turns black it needs to be surgically removed since it's gangrene. I don't know if any vets in CT do that?
There was also a recent story in CT about a coop going up in flames because of a heater :-(
I'd never use a clamp-on light in a coop - have had the chickens knock the lights securely attached to the ceiling (the outer covering has come off). Not sure what you are using. I was watching an...

We added lights and went from a low of 8 eggs to up to 2 dozen a day! I think they're set to go on from 5:30-8:00am and then 4:00-9:30pm.
Did you open that first egg yet? Sorta looks like a double-yoker.

Coyotes have been seen at the Seymour end of our road by a woman who also has chickens. We're also close to the Bethany line. I'm going to put the motion lights on tonight but I think eventually they would get used to them - the raccoons did.
I read somewhere about that red laser light...
