Hello, we are trying to plan our chicken run addition to the chicken coop. Our babies are 12 weeks old and are gonna need more space. We suck at math and are seeking help with calculations. If we use two 50" x 16' cattle panels and want the run to be 5' high at the top of the curve, and we are...
Yep nice little flock you have there. We have a few of the same breeds and I'll tell you how they do:
Buff Orp lays 6 or 7 large light brown eggs/week
SLWyandotte lays a smallish, cute light brown egg about 4 or 5 a week
Easter Eggers lay about 4 or 5 light green/turquoise eggs a week
as for...
Ours did that too. Then for weeks, he made all sorts of funny moaning sounds before he actually crowed at about 9 or 10 weeks, i think it was. It's like they are winding themselves up before they can let out a proper crow.
Thanks, folks! I think we'll try some sand.
Kind of a dumb question, but...to manage the poop, do you scoop the poop, or does it dry up? BTW We have 6 laying hens in about 300 sqft of enclosed space, half of which is uncovered.
OOOO Man, can't stand dem rats. We have been putting out traps, they're staring to make a ruckus down here in central texas too. The traps are taking care of these particular rats. With some help from Reynardine Serpentina, the rat snake who lives in our yard.
Good evening BYC, we have a question about chicken funk! Our ourdoor run has gotten funky this spring. Last year was a record drought and there never was an odor problem. But now, especially when it rains, it smells real bad. The covered side of the run stays dry, and has a deep litter of...
Hi Backyard Chickens, heads up on a situation in an subdivision area of the Austin,TX metro area. A lady was forced by a MUD (Municipal Utility District) to get rid of her 5 layers/pet hens and two ducks. Please take a moment to read her story...
howdy i'm the poster from texas...worried about the cold too, since we don't see weather like this often. the air temp will be around 15--20 down here in central texas but those 40 MPH winds are going to be something else. some folks recommend vaseline on the combs and feet to protect from...
this is great thanks everybody. us texans are wimps when it comes to the cold, but it sounds like the chickens are tougher! we don't have any exotics or tropicals so i think they'll do ok with some draft protection. hot water bottles and warm/warming feed...and hot chocolate. hot chocolate...
i would recommend bird vitamins for this little guy in addition to any splinting. you can get them at the pet store. use them for a few weeks. it was bird vitamins that helped our chicken with rubber legs, ribavarin deficiency, is what we think it was...
good luck!
