Estes staff are usually at the Springfiled Farmfest in Octobe with chicksr. That's a good place to learn about chickens. There are several vendors, some with chicken specific products. There are also animals shown but I can't remember if I saw chickens there last year.
I live south of Branson...
I think a lot depends how it's cooked. The breast are good for grilling or another other method you like. Thighs are good for things like coq au vin and soups; anything that is slow with lots of moisture. I use the legs/drumstick for stock and the meat that comes off them after a long slow...
Do you have sources or references for this? It would be helpful when interesting information like this is posted to have the sources so that we all have a chance to learn.

I’ve had Dorkings since 2012 and have tried both the Red and Silver Grey varieties. I was originally drawn to the Dorking for its role in history and reputation as an excellent meat bird. I’ve settled on the SG purely for aesthetic reasons and I hope to now move forward with a breeding program...

When I got started with DP meat birds I tried several different breeds for flavor and texture. Of the breeds I’ve tried (Australorp, Dark Cornish, Barnevelders, Ameracauna, easter egger, Barred Rock) the Dorking is my chosen breed. I find the Dorking to have a generous amount of breast meat and...
Is there a written standard for CGs? I'd support a club but even within a club it's hard to promote a breed if we aren't all breeding toward the same goal.
Sounds like it has a dirt floor? I would encourage you to consider lining it with hardware cloth and adding 6-12 inches of litter, I use a combo of straw and pine shavings. Deep litter can be low maintenance if done right.
I considered the Barred Holland but from what I read they don't lay well. At least they can't compete with they Leghorn or CG.
Since there isn't an SOP for the CG I'm going to play with them a little. I'm going to make sex links with my blue egg layers and I'm going to try to make a crele...
