Normally I am not a fan of "messing with" The Star Spangled Banner. I don't like the vocal gymnastics that a lot of singers use. This, however, is brilliant. I think it very much conveys the mood the writer felt as he penned that last question, "Oh say does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave...

Hehe, me too. As long as I focus I am okay. Rubber baby buggy bumpers does the same type of thing. It's fun to write it on the board and challenge a group of kids to try to say it.

This does say a lot. I wish I could post it so some people I know could see it. They've driven in snow, but never on ice. There's an enormous difference.

Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

Success! From the moment I read this thread I was thrilled at the idea of the poopboard. The thought of not having to clean out an entire coop was awesome. So, when we built an 8x12 chicken house, I decided to try it. I built it about 3.5 feet off the floor, and put the roost board about 10...

I remember very little about the outside world that year. That was my 10th grade year an I got to spend my days in the city in the valley in a newly built school. My mind was occupied with the enigma that is known as the high school girl. There was a maze of halls that all looked the same an...

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

Not sure what he was thinking. :) Maybe he just saw that egg, and assumed that was how it worked. Generally the chickens lay big, beautiful eggs, so this was unusual. When I first touched it, it shocked me a little. I was glad I had done so much reading here, so I knew what it was.

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

One of my chickens laid a soft shelled egg. I picked it up, and took it, along with the regular eggs, to show my "partner in chickenry". I held out the soft egg, flat on my palm. He looked at it, and said, "That one has just been laid! It's still soft!" I have to admit, I had a very hard time...

Living life at the bottom of the pecking order

Love your post! My chickens came home on Saturday, and I am so obsessed with watching, and studying... And most of all taking them treats. It was a little cool this mornings so they got warm oatmeal, with dried fruit in it. Hilarious to watch them hunt for the "bugs".

    Question...

I am new to chickens, and thoroughly enjoying listening to their sounds. I look forward to going out to the pen to listen to the rooster, especially, going on about stuff. Amazing the range of sounds they make. This morning I went out to open the door for them to get out, and heard the softest...

    Treats that are NOT treats

Tried tomato with the chickens last night. They ignored it for 2 shakes, and then went after it like it was the best treat in the world. I had one little horder, but the roo didn't tolerate that for long. Haha.

    Treats that are NOT treats

My chickens love apples, especially, but also really liked pieces of asparagus that I cut up in fine pieces. The adore broccoli, especially if the head has started to flower. They are new to me, so it is good to read about other ideas for treats for them. :)
