Turns out problem was not any kind of internal infection or illness. It was an animal attack. Found the offending critter attacking other chickens. Another hen got it pretty good.
Some pretty nasty wounds. All the magots are cleaned out of the first hen. Externally she's looking much better...
Washed, hydrogen peroxide, washed again, epson salt soak/clean, iodine just pored it all in there. I was expecting the a alien to leap out the back. There were more magots still.
Got yogurt and put apple cider vinegar in the flock's water. There's so many magots. Couldn't have been more than...
Resurecting this thread. I have a hen that defintiely has this problem. I just washed/cleaned out the area, but this ide of injectable antibiotics, doesn't sound like something I pick up at Walgreens. Any ideas for care/cure?
Whatever someone is willing to pay. I charge 5/dz but the next person that gets on the list the price will be 6/dz. I don't know how many I could get rid of at 5/dz but it's way more than the ladies are producing that's for sure. I do zero advertising. I made a little website for fun and I've...
It might be too much for the dog to resist and he'll learn to charge across the invisible fence line. I'd be much more worried about that than the chickens having a death wish. If the dog is barking and acting all agressive they'll stay away.
If you do fence, don't put a cap on it. A visual...
As much as you can get for them.
You have any more information? How do you keep your hens? How many?
I'm in Tampa more or less and tell people the eggs are 50c a piece, buy ten get two free, please bring your own carton.
I've had some folks question that price, but they all pay it. I...
WheeewHooo! First egg. Itty Bitty thing, laid in the Hanger where I was storing a bail of hay. It was obviously on from mid morning. Abby, was not hanging with the rest of the flock. Then some, I'm getting ready to lay an egg clucking. Then I think my dad shoed her out of the hanger and she was...
50c an egg, buy ten get two free. So that's $5 a doz. I'm in Tampa, Fl more or less. I have to get my gals laying more eggs as I know I'm losing customers. I tell people the eggs are 5/doz and that's a deal because I should be selling them for six. "Local Farmers markets are asking 6." Yes...
I'm keeping the chicks out of there at night. I've put them in, what's effectively a dog crate, with some food and water and will return them to the larger coup in the morning. Not sure how long I can keep this up, but at the very least some time for the bait to possibly work and/or to do an...
I think I had a rat attack last night. Raised many chicks in this coup never had a problem. Lost four of 8 last night and they were mangled. UGH.
Rat was the only critter that came to mind but I never lost any to rats before so I wasn't sure if that was a possibility. Figured it'd show up...
