Everytime I try to share my experience on a forum I never have any participation, and in this case the pattern seems to continue. I don't understand if its lack of pizazz in my thread or if it gets lost in the midst of the others. So in other words I'm gonna sign out BYC and hope to figure out...
Also when should I add grit to the chicks diet? I bought a rubber feed container for a "pond" but the ducks don't dig it much... Any suggestions or advice on ducklings?
I tell you what these guys grow fast. It's cool to see the chicks feathers coming in, especially on the wings. The Pekins are huge haha and the buff orpingtons are starting to get their "buff" color... No poopie butt still, how should I offer the yogurt? They don't seem interested much even when...
Ducks!!!
2 Mallards 4 Pekins
These guys are great, kinda bossy though haha. I need to buy them a small "pond" from the store... Not sure what to use yet.
Anyways the chicks are learning to roost... Check it out
I upgraded to bigger feeders and moved them to the finished brooder...
My hand got a cramp she sat so long lol...
8 days old today and they're doing great. A few of the barred rocks are starting to get theyre white tips on their wings. The umbilical cord thing fell off of my buff orp. I've done a poopie butt check twice a day and applied Vaseline... I've yet to...
Just some more shots of the chicks... They are crazy haha
They all are doing great no poopie butt, no tired chicks. In fact they all have been playing "runway" and running from one side of the brooder to the other flapping their wings. It's too funny to watch. Feed and water intake has seemed...
That's terrible... Sorry for the mass loss. I was dreading dead chicks on arrival being from maine and ordering early on... I suppose I got lucky. I see so many of these horror stories.
Hey there, awesome chicks! I just got my order the other day, I also got buffs along with barred rocks. Im wishing I threw in some americaunas though! Anyhow sorry to hear about your streak of bad luck so... good luck!
So the first night, although nerve wracking to leave them alone for 8 hrs straight, went well. They were all sleeping huddled up when I came out in the morning. I've cleaned and applied Vaseline to their bums a couple times already. No one seems weak or off yet. They all seem like happy chicks...
Hey there got the call this morning! Here's the peepers...
15 out of 16 (16th was one for luck I guess ironically...)
11 barred rocks 4 buff orps... Loving life here. Put some ACV in the water and already did a round of poopie butt cleaning and applied Vaseline... How often should I keep an...
This is the brooder I whipped together for my 11 Plymouth Rocks and 4 Buffs...
It's 6.5x2.5.... Should be enough room eh? It's under my workbench inside the coop. Just need to cut the rounds above the brooder and net it off for the heat lamp. After they outgrow it I'm planning on rabbits!
Im new to raising chicks, and I want to make sure I do it right. So basically Im wondering what brand/style the chicks do best with... and also if there is a brand/style that is no good. Thanks in advance BYC
Im awaiting my chicks as we speak and will probably have to deal with this in the very near future! LOL, Anyway I think I saw in several threads you can also apply vaseline to the chicks rear to help aid with pasty butt.
I am by no means a chicken expert, but Ive read recently you can overdose your chicks on the electrolyte water. ( not to say that is the case) It might just be so mething you can watch out for. Im getting my first chicks on the 12th so good luck to us both!
Ok I'll look into bigger bags, I knew I'd have to get more i just wanted to have some on hand right away. Ill look into flock raiser.... and i need to wait for non medicated after 8 weeks? Wowsers 25lbs a week eh? No problem but I was hoping to bring that number down by supplementing with...
