    Deformed beak in gouldian chick

You've got a "cross beak" deformity. Things don't go well for those little guys as they get older...can't eat or drink as it grows and worsens. Some will do heroics to feed them when they are like this but it may be more humane to cull it now while it is little. Sorry for the bad news. Take care.

    Unusual feather loss

And that is exactly what happened...after 7 months of losing feathers and looking horrid, Edelweiss is regrowing and looking MUCH Better! She molted fully when the majority of the others did and then quickly regrew. Just a note, I did a lot of supplementing with the dehydrated grubs and made...

it is! She's still around too! Almost 8 years now and the same attitude and ability to avoid calamity! She's eluded many predator attacks and ruled the roost for a long time now. She's our Marilyn!

    Unusual feather loss

Organic layer feed, “Grubblies” (dehydrated soldier fly larvae),a little oatmeal mixed with scratch To get them into run when they’ve been out, and random kitchen/garden veggie and fruit scraps. Thank you for your response! Hoping she’ll start getting feathered out before it turns too cold.

    Unusual feather loss

I have an Easter Egger (approximately 14 mos old when feather loss began now 20 months ) that began loosing feathers as if molting in April...feather loss continued through the summer on neck and upper part of wings. Vent area seems fine, and I have seen no indication of mites. I have 14 other...

    Sour or impacted crop

HI All, Last week as I was giving my 3-4 year old Wyandotte hen a once over cause she was acting as if she didn't feel well, I discovered that when I picked her up that she spurted a bunch of bad smelling fluid from her crop...it was not mucous and after a few attempts to clear her crop, I found...

    Broken egg, predator?

Depending on how significant the molt is...up to 3 months. Sometimes they lose a lot of feathers, sometimes they only lose some.

    Broken egg, predator?

It's also molting season now but I would think a possum would eat/break eggs. and they could definitely scare them.

    Broken egg, predator?

I once had an entire summer where most/many eggs were broken, pecked or knocked out of the nesting boxes. It took me several months (!!!) to finally find out that it was blue jays flying into the coop (barn door was open) and pecking the eggs (or knocking them out). Had never heard of that...and...

    Bullied hen in backyard flock.

Thanks duckdoc! Great advice. we are actually no where near Las Vegas...northern Nevada where they don't grow buildings!!! I have my original coop from before I figured out that I really like raising chickens and needed more! It is quite nice so I think I will have to move the cat out of there...

    Bullied hen in backyard flock.

Hi All,:frow I have a 1 year old EE that is being bullied by the other flock members. Thanks for any help you can offer here. The flock consists of 11 hens, a large coop and run, and no indication of any health problems in the hen which is being picked on. Here's the deal...initially the...

Silver Laced Wyandotte - Pullet or Roo? -- June 13th- 8 WEEKS OLD- new photos

Agreed...I'd say pullet too. Wyandottes throw people off cause they have a rose comb that can be redder and fatter than the typical single comb many hens have. Mine all ended up being pullets but a few guessed they were roos initially!

    Is she a he?

I agree! Should have a rose comb and that is throwing you off! Hard to tell just yet. Hang in there. Vickery

Severely stunted chick 5 weeks old...Any ideas?

It's actually the person's silver ring you are seeing at it's foot. Feet look fine from what I can tell. It was around well. No issues there. Thanks for your input. Vickery
