    That is all true but I guess what surprised me is that I have had chickens for 19 years and never experience a hen that wont leave the eggs and when I did remove them have such a reaction. I am always learning and will read more about brooding, thank you for your response.

    i have a question? i have three hens and one rooster in a coop. if i want more chicks do i just leave the eggs in the coop and watch to see if the hens sit on them? i have one young hen that does seem to sit on her egg during the day. i collect eggs daily so i have never had chicks before...
