You bet, I just like the dog houses because the tops will pull off easy for cleaning. I keep wood shavings inside for them to bed and nest in. And your right about the feed and water needing to stay away from the bedding area.
Hate to butt in but looks like a good thread to maybe find someone with east indis. I need a drake ready to breed. Anybody know where I can get one? Thanks
Layer pellets would be good, I feed mine about 50% layers nd the other half of the crumbles. It has worked out great for me, most of mine lay an egg every day. I also mix a little bit of oyster shells with their feed.
I hope u don't mind me chiming in. I use small dog houses for my calls to nest in. I put a little stray or wood chips in it and mark a chicken egg with a big x nd put it in there, they fall for it almost every time nd build a nest and lay there. I hatch my eggs in an incubator so I gather all...
I don't mean to butt into your conversation but this one seems like a good time to ask, do any of you know where I can get call ducks? I lost my breeding black east Indy male nd need to replace him as soon as possible. Thank u so much if u can tell me where I might find one.
They all look like hens to me but the quack will give them away for sure. If they're not quacking u might try picking them up one at a time nd a lot of times this will make them, if its loud its a hen if its soft nd quiet it's usually a drake.
I think I may have fhis question going in other places on here already but ill get ur opinion too. I'm hatching call duck eggs nd have them on end but have heard they need to be on their sides?
Thanks, I'm hatching call ducks nd have them in the incubator in trays with the small end down. But I have heard that u should never incubate calls on end that they need to lay on their sides, is this true or am I ok?
I am just starting in on incubating my call duck eggs. I have a big incubator I once used for emu eggs, auto everything. My question is: can I use trays that hold the eggs up on their ends or do I need to figure out a way to lay them down flat?
