    All container plants will need drainage..or they would drown/root rot, in stagnant water..keeping that in mind you may come up with an idea:) There are so many sooooo many bantam varieties that are cold hardy..silkies & Easter Eggers to name a few.. Still would be cleaner, safer to have a floor...

    Plants will also need drainage.. Important that the drainage water will not run inside the coop.. Maybe you would also like to consider bantam sized chicks (my favs)..they would have a lot more room considering they will be cooped up most of the time..

    Infection(gangrene) can be secondary to the frost bite. The reason to remove the toes that are infected is to prevent gangrene from spreading into the bloodstream.Frostbitten toes can sometimes fall of on their own. Can you google pics/tx for frostbite in chickens? I've seen it first hand only...

    As I was just beginning to read your post I thought to say"check your neighbors yard!" When I lived in Chicago we were the only family in the neighborhood who had chickens (bantams) so when two went missing we put the word out & recovered them about four blocks away..neighborhood kids!

    my luck they will be all boys too! I just checked my silkies and all skin and beaks are turning dark now so I definitely retract my opinion on it being a silkie..I hope their chick may have a splash in it..they are stunning! Mine are just for pets/backyard decor:)

    sultan chicks are one well old today & already grown actual leg feathers..no dark down feathers on their backs..looks like my week old silkies..

    Stromberg's Chickens-- show quality chicks

    I would recommend Stromberg..I received my order of bantam chicks (5each-Sultans, buff silkies, Japanese blacktail buffs, Easter eggers & Mille Fleur d'Uccles) Valentines day..out of 25 I did have 4 fatalities but was reimbursed in less than one business day..great service & product.
