I'll try to get more photos of them soon. I've been so busy with work (7 shifts in 6 days every week) plus we have an ever growing herd of goats so I rarely have time to post here anymore. I post a bit on Facebook since it's more handy.
Right now we have about a foot of snow so birds are...
So far they lay pretty good, much better than the pure light browns I used to help make them. Eggs are a decent size too, much larger than the other bantam chickens I have but body size is about the same as the other bantams
Thanks. When my grandmother passed and I was going through old drawings I did, I noticed most of the chickens looked like a silver laced leghorn if anything. When I was a teen, I wanted to combine lacing and the leghorn type but didn't have the knowledge of genetics back then to make it happen...
Above are some project leghorn bantams. Top picture is my bantam Mille fleur hen with her cockerel from a light brown cock. There is also a pure light brown hen and a blue laced red project pullet.
I've been working on making single combed and rose combed blue laced red and also blue light...
Finally caught up on this thread. Love seeing all the legbar mixes! I didn't get to do any of the legbar crosses this season that I hoped but this coming season I'll be adding in some different birds to the legbar pen for some projects. This year I focused on refining my rose combed legbars and...
I know this was posted this spring but I haven't been on much. I created rose combed legbars a while back and they're now my sole focus. I started them as soon as the first legbars were imported and I got my pair. I bred the legbar cock to rose combed leghorn hen and went from there. My current...
Hello fellow Deer Parkian! I'm still around but the various threads here on BYC move so quick so I can't keep up. I'm a couple miles north of Deer Park and I work a few miles west of Deer Park so I am always around, lol.
We mainly do sumatras and legbars with some other breeds too.
If you want...
Just curious, where did you get him? Sometimes I get people's real names mixed up with BYC names but I think he is from my autosexing EE project. Your profile pic is the same as the person I shipped eggs to.
Not really related to ameraucanas but something relatable. My hen from a legbar x red ranger has willow legs. If she had white skin, the legs would be more blue I believe. I have never ever seen a barred bird with green legs, always yellow
I have done the cross with rose combed brown leghorn hens and show style brown leghorns and the color was always the same. The eggs are super light blue for the most part- they almost look white when you see them alone.
I had to dig wayyyyy back (110 weeks to be exact) on my instagram to find the only picture I have of him. Father was splash laced red wyandotte and mother was legbar. Over all he looked like a blue double laced barnevelder with barring once he matured and the type was just weird.
Yours are very colorful! My cockerel is from a silver crele hen and legbar male but he looks plain silver with little leakage. He'll be bred to his half sister who has a rose comb to get some walnut type combs. I will also breed him to the above pullet along with a couple EE hens and a dun...
A little of both. The cockerel is a bantam phoenix and the other is young. She is about 4-4 1/2 months old and weighs about 6 lbs. Her mother laid muscovy sized eggs right off the bat and laid pretty well but by a year old she got a purple face and dropped dead a few days later.
