Don, it seems chicks go through constant molts for a few weeks. At what approximate age do you cull them for any white feathers? Can a stray white feather be bred out if everything else about the bird is outstanding? Or is it a cull with no questions asked? Thanks!
Dan
Don, I don't post on here much, but I enjoy reading your posts and critiques. It is amazing what you can get from so called top breeders. I have hatched eggs from 3 different breeders and I would only consider getting eggs from one of those and I hope to do just that again next Spring. Thanks...
I put an ISA Brown hen in with a Wheaten Ameracauna Roo. to get some variety in with my egg color. I got 100% hatch on those eggs and some have distinct Chipmunk markings and others don't. Anyone know if this could be a notation of sex? Thanks!
Dan
I agree with you 100%! Don stick around and allow those of us who want to learn the opportunity to try. Anybody that wants to talk about Mutt chickens and BS can go to the appropriate thread.

I am a relative newbie when it comes to Marans and I for one would Love to hear how snowbird/Don and other successful breeders go about culling for SOP as well as egg color. What do you look for first in chicks that is an automatic cull as they are young and on through the grow out period. This...
I have SLW's directly from Jerry Foley. I am currently collecting eggs to put in my incubator (this Wednesday) Once I know fertility is good I would be willing to ship hatching eggs. That would be one to two weeks away yet.

I am definitely not looking for someone to sugar coat something or talk out of the side of their mouth! In my opinion there is way too much of that in this world today! Too many people worrying about what is politically correct and not wanting to hurt someone's feelings. Just tell it like it is...
Take your feelings off your elbows, stick around and learn something. I am a newbie too. I have learned a bunch around here, especially from snowbird.
Don't let pride make you leave! After all why are you here if not to learn something!

I have a Black Copper Marans Rooster as well as a Wheaten Ameracauna Rooster. I also have Blue egg laying hens and Black Copper hens. My question is which cross would get the best Olive Egger? BCM Roo over a Blue Egg layer or Ameracauna Roo over a BCM Hen? Any combination or suggestions are...
The gears and the arm in the automatic cradle are also plastic. Not good!! Mine broke in the middle of a hatch that had some very pricey eggs inside. It dumped them every where! IMO $300 is way more than a chunk of plastic is worth.

I bought a Brinsea and was very disappointed with the quality. IMHO it was no way worth the price paid. I returned it and bought a Dickey's 2 X 2. I have been very pleased. If I was going to buy anything less I would buy a cheap TSC or Rural King incubator. I would not waste money on the over...
