Hi,
Similar question: I am interested in hatching a few ducklings under one of my hens (if and when they go broody). But I have a flock of 14 hens--how will the other hens treat the little ducklings once they've hatched? And I'd like to move the ducklings in with the ducks eventually (four...

I have Khaki Campbell ducks and I have raised them for eggs. People also raise ducks for meat. The duck eggs taste very similar, but you may notice a difference. The eggs are generally bigger than chicken eggs. The white of the eggs are also more solid, i.e., not as watery as chicken egg whites...
Alright, I will see what I can do about selling them. Right now I can't tell them apart because I have several different breeds and they are the same breeds as the ones I purchased.
Thanks for your help.
Donrae,
The problem is I have no where to keep the roosters separately. I'm afraid I'll have to process them early or sell/give them away. I just don't have the space to keep them for longer. Plus, as I said, it's illegal here to have roosters.
Today I received my order of 15 chicks. As I placed them in the brooder, I realized that there were a bunch more than I ordered. Turns out 10 were added (without charge) as MALES FOR WARMTH. I was not expecting that. So I now have 25 chicks and am trying to figure out what to do. I can't keep...

Hi,
I have a similar question: I have 6 ducks and 2 drakes, 1 to be re-homed soon, I hope. One of my ducks just started laying. I have heard some different opinions and want some more advice before I decide. Which feed should I feed my duck flock? Flock Raiser? Or Layer? Oyster shell on the...
Haha! Yep, that's what I am thinking, having ducks for about 5 months now. I was super excited to get them, then the young stage when they're inside was horrific, then outside was great, then tons of other ups and downs as I quickly figured out that some things did not work and needed to change...
Hi,
I've read from the blog of a lady who owns ducks and it has been very helpful to get started. Here are some things she said regarding winter care for ducks:
Ducks can get frostbite below 20 F.
For the night: Before bed, give cracked corn or peanuts--Keep coop well ventilated--Add a thick...
Sunnyfishy,
Hahahah, yeah, I am a bit slow; didn't even notice!
Thanks for the answers. I actually got my first egg this morning!!!!!!!!!! Super excited! And I unfortunately just bought a 50 lb bag of starter grower... But I guess I could get some layer and mix it in 50/50? And oyster shell; or...
Thanks, that does help. Sometimes I get so nervous I feel like just getting rid of my Khaki drake, but he is so social and sweet and beautiful that I decide against it...
