Howdy! I’ve been a member if this forum for a long time but havently really been active. We had chickens, then moved, had to rehome them, bought some land, started building a house and now we have 13 chicks! I jumped the gun a bit and ordered some online from Ideal Poultry. They are officially a...
I live in Hutto and have the same problem. My chickens are not housed at our house. That was the only way around the HOA problem for us since I have neighbors that would report us and a weenie dog that would stalk them. I have two red sex links and a black australorp hen. The red hens are...
Anyone near Austin have Silkie, Frizzle or Sizzle hens/pullets for sale or trade? I have a white leghorn hen that I'd like to find a new home for and would be willing to trade her for a different (and more tame) hen or pullet. She's pretty wild but lays a perfect egg every day. Hatched in...
Our first hen started laying two weeks ago. Looks like we have 2 or 3 out of the 4 hens laying now. Here are the first 3 eggs from two weeks ago.
After two weeks of laying!
Weird bullet egg...
And two of my happy hens!
I don't think I can pay a pet sitter to look after 4 chickens housed on school property. I wouldn't feel comfortable allowing someone I don't know have access to them since they are not on private property. Thanks anyway for the suggestion. I think the best option would be to bring them home...
I have a friend who can swing by once or twice to check on them but they may not get out there everyday and I also don't know how well they would collect the eggs. Right now the chickens are at my school so it's kind of hard to get a good chicken babysitter that would come out everyday. I check...
Question about gathering eggs...
I'm going out of town July 4-7th. I have an automatic waterer set up for the chickens and a feeder that's big enough. Would the eggs be good if I collected them when I return?
My gut is telling me no because of the heat.
Ahh you must have used the ones with the bigger squares. I know the 4x4 ones are pretty pricey. We used those for our dog run. With the $20 ones, it would definitely be affordable.
$400 seems a little high, I'm guessing that included the fixit guy's labor? The cattle panels they used would probably be the biggest cost. You might be able to get some on craigslist. I think at Tractor Supply, they are close to $40 each (maybe higher). Cool set up though. We might need...
Our show goats are always getting scours. It is more than likely from the combined stress of weaning, banding, new home and heat. Diarrhea with a fever usually needs antibiotics. I would suggest getting a drench syringe and giving him electrolytes that way. If he's that sick he probably won't...
Hi! My name is Kristi and I'm new to the world of chickens. I'm an ag teacher and few months ago one of my students brought me two pullets from Tractor Supply. We had been talking about getting some chickens to keep at the school for a while and I guess she figured it was time to put that plan...
