    Affordable automatic coop door, suggestions?

Maybe and I completely sympathize with their issues as a small business. I know it was installed correctly since it worked fine for periods of time, but when it failed it failed suddenly and spectacularly (multiple times, in various conditions, for unexplained reasons). Anyway...I really...

    Affordable automatic coop door, suggestions?

I emailed the company a few times but didn't get a response. Finally just sent the whole thing back last week with an explanation and history of my issues. My hope is they honor their warranty and either refund me or replace the unit.

    Affordable automatic coop door, suggestions?

Best of luck with your ADOR. I had one for about a year and had very bad luck with it, even though the installation, mounting, battery, etc all were correct, the door never quite worked correctly. The gear on the motor would catch, it would randomly decide not to close on certain nights, and a...

Who left this track in my run?

I didn't know this before getting chickens, but apparently 20 miles outside of DC we have plenty of chicken hungry predators (including coyotes, bobcats, etc). Not sure what this thing was though, hopefully it doesn't come during the day.

Who left this track in my run?

Whatever it was, it climbed/jumped a 6 foot fence to get into the run (which I think eliminates the local fox who's prints are everywhere else on the property). I'm going to try to setup a trail cam in the next few days here to get a visual on it.

Who left this track in my run?

Yes, its consistently three toe pads, its about an inch to 1.5 inches from top to bottom. I'll see if I can get something out there as scale before the snow melts.

I found this track in the snow this morning. It was in and around the run. Thanks.

My wife is looking to get ~14 eggs for a hatching project in her classroom, anyone have fertile eggs in the NoVa area? We're not particular on the type of chicken as long as they aren't bantams since we will eventually integrate them into our flock and don't have any now. Looking to get them...

    Possum in the run

I found one this morning munching on a chicken in a low nesting box, poor chicken had been recovering from an unrelated wound and couldn't run away fast enough. The other chickens managed to get away unharmed. I cornered the possum in the nesting box and eventually managed to get rid of him...

We live in Fairfax County and I don't think I can trap or shot or even hurt the native animals legally on my property, so my best option is deter him from coming again. FWIW I also sprayed some Coyote/Fox urine mix that we use for our gardens around the perimeter of the run; its God awful but...

Good suggestion on the hardware cloth, I'll make the switch ASAP. Whatever got them went into the coop through the pop door. We have a full sized (man) door on the side, but that was locked overnight. I'm looking into the electrical fencing too, I'm hoping to wire it up along the perimeter...

Off topic----UGH!!! Something (probably a fox) dug into our run last night and plucked out 3 pullets. No bodies left, only piles of feathers. I did what I could with restoring the chicken wire he dug through, but I am also wondering if something like Nite Guard works, anyone here have...

Thanks for your responses. Any experience getting fertilized eggs shipped? We've worked with the local 4-H before but we missed the boat this year. Anyone semi-local have Maran or Welsummer eggs for sale?

Wanted to check in from Northern VA. We started with a small flock in October and are looking to hatch a few more this spring. We have 2 RSL, 2 EE, and 1 RIR. Any recommended breeds for our area? Ideally we would want something that lays dark brown or colored eggs. Thanks.
