    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Great! I've had this resource right under my nose and never knew (dh manages a Ford store with service shop, ha!)... Are you guessing it's probably something else in the mix? Just assumed it was the peas because that's what the smell primarily reeks of ~ thankfully it hasn't deterred me...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

This recent discussion has been very helpful in clearing up some things for me ~ thanks for everyone's input! I got a good ferment on my 1st batch with organic starter but am having a harder time with their grower feed. Not mixing my own yet but hoping to eventually. The thing with this...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I like this idea ~ have been leaving my bucket lid on cockeyed with a couple bricks placed strategically on top. My pullets can get in the feed room through a broken board. Came in one morn after having left the lid off and one of my gals was sitting waist deep in the ff, ha! Maybe I could...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

This is a good "rule of thumb" that I have not yet heard, thanks! I'm so with you on this :) ! There is actually quite a bit of information out there, especially on the Internet and in book form. Our family has been using herbal remedies for many years now with much success (asthma...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

This is what I've been doing also ;) You aren't kidding about being pigs! I've had fun bringing them our table scraps to see what they will and won't eat. I get a kick out of watching them fight over it!

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Mine go crazy too & since this is my 1st flock & they were started on FF ~ I just figured that's how they all acted at feeding time ~ I have learned that I'm putting my toes at risk when I wear flip-flops around them, lol!

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I was just wondering this & about to ask ~ thanks for sharing this thread! It was 99 & super windy here in KS yesterday ~ looks like we may reach near 100 again but not as windy. I am thankful for all the shade our property offers but have neglected to get more waterers out for them :/ heading...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

They are almost 6 weeks old ~ I started free ranging end of last week ~ 14 of them ~ since putting them out they are eating significantly less FF ~ my new worry will be predators until we get a livestock guardian dog but they are so fun to watch!

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Poop question? Hi ~ I am new to chickens & obviously FF. Keep reading that chickens who eat FF should have firmer poops. Since this is my 1st go & I've never really been around poultry, mine still seem kinda runny. I'm seriously going to ask if someone could post a picture of their chickens...

Definitely doing this, great tip! Love this idea also! Are you talking the big coy-like goldfish or lil ones? Thank you! No new birds but my Mom visits & has here own vaccinated flock. I have talked to her about mine being closed and the precautions we need to take. Have no doubt she...

Ditto! But I hope it means something to you all that I only reserve asking advice to trusted sources & that although my life does not allow me to follow regularly now - someday it will and I will be able give back to others the knowledge being imparted now! That's what I've liked about this...

The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Ah! This has been an interesting week for us! Biggest was my m-i-l being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer on Tuesday, then having to have our 15 yr old family dog put down last night (everyone was at peace with the decision) & next, culling our 1st chick (1 month old) from the flock this...

QUESTION How many here use Fertrell Poultry Nutri-Balancer or similar product? Am trying to decide what suppliments I should add to my flocks feeding. Currently feeding my chicks organic fermented feed & ACV in their water. They will be free-ranged & DL in coop. I will also suppliment with...

The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Really appreciated all the info on herb usage! Plan on throwing some dried lavender in with the chickies this eve :) Quick story... My 8 yr old son persists that he wants us to name all the chickies. I explained to him that we need to wait as we can't tell the difference between our female...
