Fresh eggs are always welcomed by anyone we offer them to, so your neighbors should be okay w some hens at your home. If you don't keep a rooster there will be very little to no noise to bother anyone. Also, there are duck breeds that lay eggs like crazy and do all the great things chickens do...

When do Wyandottes generally start laying?

My 3 GLW hens started laying @ 24 or 25 weeks. A little earlier than many have posted. All I can think of as an excuse is I spoil my birds and they get to free range daily wherever they like including the garden. I've picked up old veggies from market all year, and dedicated extra garden space...

Chickens sleeping in laying boxes :( help

Thank you, I believe I'll have to kick em out at night, put piece of wood over the boxes till morning. The boxes are by far lower than any roost, they're just lazy and comfy in those insulated boxes at this point. lol

Chickens sleeping in laying boxes :( help

They aren't broody, it's purely for sleeping. The boxes are the easiest / 1st thing to get up on though all the roost area is easy for them to get up on.

Chickens sleeping in laying boxes :( help

I have a group of birds who like to sleep in the egg laying boxes. I believe it's because they are lowest on the pecking order and didn't want the hassle of finding a safe sleeping spot so they just stayed low. There are plenty of roosts and fewer and fewer birds around as I cull down for...

When do Wyandottes generally start laying?

"The Golden Girls", My 3 GLW hens that hatched in mid April started laying for me last week. So I guess it was 23 weeks for my 1st egg experience w GLW. Gorgeous, friendly, calm birds. They've filled out well & remained healthier than most all other rarer breeds I picked up this year...

What do you get when you cross a SLW with a GLW pls?

As the Title suggested I'm curious what the chicks would look like if they are SLW x GLW. I have 3 GLW hens and a SLW rooster. I'm considering keeping the roo if it will throw nice chicks w the GLW hens. Does anyone have experience to share w this cross? I'm sure its been done, I just have no...

Well, I'm sure there must be some law against the neighbors dog being a predator on your property. Possibly turning him in would make him "care" that your animals are being slaughtered. Personally, I went and spoke w neighbors who's dogs are loose. ( we live in farmland mountains, most dogs are...

Thank you friends, I was sure there was some good reason not to keep them. Like I said the Molson and low bid at the auction is to blame! They are for sale or trade. 7 of them. Cash, quacker, or clucker please. Think I paid $17.50 for em all. They are flyin fools, vibrant and active, clean...
