And... we have babies again! Our initial non-invasive inspection leads us to believe we have 14-15 between the two Californians. Eight in one and six or seven in the other. One is a brand new momma and she is doing very well so far. Last night she started pulling fur and this morning there were...
Hello all, hoping you can... well I guess I'm hoping you can relieve some of my stress and tell me everything is going to be ok lol.
We're building our first rabbit hutch and I am having a heck of a time finding proper wire fencing. From everything that I've read, the best material to use for...
We think it was one of the black austrolorps. Tasted delicious. A very healthy solid egg for her first. I thought the first was always a bit of a runt but I guess not! It was quite small. about an inch and a half to two inches long =)
Well, I recon this is a $300-400 egg, but it was totally worth it. Our first egg after months of hard work, lots of cleaning, lots of food, lots of water, lots of laughs, and tons of aggravation.
Ugg, a week later and the easter egger is getting picked on all to heck again. What gives? I understand pecking order but she's petrified to be around them and as a result doesn't really eat or drink as much as she should be. This is equal parts annoying and frustrating.
I hate to waste the skin but yeah, plucking sucks. Cynthia wanted to skin but I wanted the experience of plucking. The chickens we have right now arent really for meat anyway. We had no intention of having to cull her but she left us no choice. The other NH Red is now the loudest bird (but...
So we found a deceased kit in the box today, and... 8 live ones. The dead kit looks like she's been gone for a little while, and we never counted nine. She was a fairly large one and looks like she was crushed. Meanwhile, super-runt is still alive and kicking, full of energy, and empty on milk...
It goes out exponentially depending on the breed size. Smaller breeds are ready sooner like at 3 months on for the minis and then mediums take 4-5 months and large breed females take 6+ months. A general rule of thumb is when they reach their mature weight they are ready to breed.
Thank you, I did my best in the time given and material available. It's a little small, but will have to do for now.
We got another doe today. It's a dutch and she's had a litter before, so she's somewhat experienced. We immediately bred her with our Californian buck who's a little young but...
How? Youtube and my fiancees instruction from her experience. Wasnt as bad as youd think. I cut its head off so its suffering was slight if existant. As soon as its dead then its just meat with an annoying wrapper around it. Chickens are crazy psychologically because they move a lot and very...
Did we say seven? During first belly check at post-24hour mark the real count is eight. Jeezum-crow!
So far so good. Shes a great mama but we do have three runts to keep an eye on. Pictures coming soon.
