    For the fist time.

I decided this evening that the chickens had been confined to their run long enough. So I opened up the door and stood back. At first they were a little apprehensive about their new found freedom, but once they realized this new opportunity meant new found dirt to scratch and grass to eat they...

Thank you I hope he turns out to be nice and quiet. I don't want to anger the neighbors so we can keep him. If not my son (this is one he got to name) will be devastated, he has become so attached!!!

    Hen or Roo

One of our buff orpingtons is developing faster than the others. They are all 5 weeks old, and one has a comb and waddle already. So my question is Hen or Roo? Also, if he is, how are orpington roo's, are they loud crowers, and do they do it often? I really don't want to get rid of him/her, it...

I built an outdoor playpen for my chicks, they are 2 and a half weeks old. They love being outside. Ii is fun to sit and watch them scratch, peck, and try to dust bathe in the grass. Then after all the hijinx they lay in the shade and take a nap.

    Feathering Out

I have 6 chicks that are a week old. 5 of them are growing beautiful wing feathers. One though has short stumpy wing feahers that don't look like the others. Should I be worried or am I just over reacting?

    A litlle help here

Ok thank you, one more question the chicks seem to be pecking each other a lot. I had heard if it is too warm they will do that, but they are spread out like the temp comfortable.

    Covered Run

The more I think about it I do believe I am just going to cover the run, I know I will be worrying all the time. Any ideas on what to cover the top with, poultry fencing gets awfully expensive.

    Covered Run

I don't know whether to post this in here or on the predator thread so I will give it a try here. We are expecting our first little ones on the 15th of May and with their arrival comes building the coop. The coop isn't the problem I can build that, thanks to browsing all the wonderful pictures...

    What does everyone think?

My family and I are looking into getting 4 hens for the eggs. I have been walking around my property scratching my head trying to find a place to put a coop and run. Then I thought of this flower bed. Every year it gets over run with weeds and it is hard to maintain. I thought maybe the chickens...
