    Russian Orloffs

If your getting an egg every 2 or three days, you are doing well with Orloffs. They typically 150 eggs or so per year and are not known as good egg layers. Molting often occurs in the fall and it will affect egg laying rate. Personally, I would not worry about your hen. Sounds like she is...

how many hens per rooster for fertile eggs?

While your one rooster will eventually get to your 10 hens, I would not be comforatable with your ratio if I were selling the eggs as fertilized eggs to a buyer. A ratio of 1 roo to 5 hens would better assure you that the eggs will be fertile. You can use the one rooster you have, but rotate...

The only thing I would have in Black Austrolorps is a beautiful rooster and one hen. I plan on keeping both as I use the roo to breed my egg laying mixed flock. The only thing I have to sell is roosters at this time. I have three Russian Orloffs, a Lavender Orpington, three light Sussex, a...

    Diahrrea in Hens!

You are correct. I try to use only natural measures to ward off things like this and have not used a commercial wormer. What have you used that you believe is effective? Thanks again for responding.

    Diahrrea in Hens!

I have noticed in the past two weeks that my flock of mixed hens and roos seem to have very runny bowel movements. The entire flock of 15 all seem very healthy and I continue to get 7-10 eggs each day out of my 10 hens. They are on pasture 24/7, but do not free range. They are fed 16% pellets...

What did your chickens do today?

One of my two leghorn hens layed her first egg! My Wyandotte and Buff orp roos decided to have a go at each other for about 20 minutes. The boss buff ended up with some cuts to his wattles and the Wyandatte came out injury free. But the buff still reigns!

What did your chickens do today?

My pastured chickens had not experienced a real rainstorm until today. 6 of them proved to be rather dimwittted as they could not find the open door and were huddled against the fencs getting soaked. Had to literally catch each one and throw them in the pen before they drowned!

    Mixing Turkeys and Chickens

Thanks! Will check it out. It appears that the turkeys are in more danger than my chickens thus far based on what I have read and those who have replied. I forgot to mention that these are year old turkeys if it matters. I hope in just a couple of days to turn them out into pasture and take...
