Also because chickens are smarter than turkeys. That urban legend about turkeys drowning in a thunderstorm because they look up with their mouth opens . . . . . .

My local TSC has little Giant for only$ 34 I might get oen of those, more room better temp control with a therm, and can add a fan kit (but I think I could just use 50mm-70mm case fan kits from my computer parts storage bin.
Well the quail eggs first.
I am looking for 3 Pekin Ducks (I live in Pekin) or 3 - 4 reds, barred rock, or any good layer.
Another possibility would be 6 fancy bantams or tumbler pigeons.
At this point I'm pretty well up for anything, even some Cornish x but I would be eating these so no...
I am so eggcited!
I got one of those tiny plastic incubators with no thermostat that have a little 7w light bulb and they look like a UFO. Its new, free shipping, with 6 fertile quail eggs, for only $23. I know these are marginal but when I was a kid i was hatching chicks 3 and 4 at a time...
Greetings from Illinois! I just joined too but have been reading the site posts for 2 hours and there are a lot of people who know what they are talking about here.
Good luck with your chickens.
Hi jeebs, welcome! I'm new too and I have just joined today.
I have been browsing the site and there is a wealth of information here.
Good luck with those chicks I am still waiting and trying to find 3 eggs for my tiny little desktop incubator. It won't be long for me now.
When I was raising meat birds I used a bottle waterer, very inexpensive or easy to make. I used to put a chicken wire guard over the bowl to makw sure none drowned the first couple days.
Hi Josh:
Go to TSC.com and see if they have a store near you. My local TSC is selling chicks for $2.20
Better yet google feed stores in your area, and then just call them and ask where you can get some; most feed stores this time of year are selling them.
You can also buy them online but...

That 3rd picture in particular is very nice.
I kept mine inside for 2 weeks, and then moved them outside and kept the brooder handy for another 2 weeks because I lost 50 meat birds one spring when I tried to harden them too fast.
Remember, this time of year the temperature can really dip down at night.
We used a little prep h if they had a bleeding vent, and sometimes when that happens that could have have a prolapse too. (For the bleeding ones.) Sometimes it can also be caused by other chcikens pecking as that seems to be a favorite target area.
I used to get 50 cornish rock broiler birds every year and would process them in the 8th week usually. They had a small run but didn't free range I pushed the feed pretty hard.
I had a small 5 acre parcel back in the 90s and we had 2 pigs, 50 meat birds, 1 beef calf, 1 turkey, and about 80 rabbits we would raise and process for our families larder. We also had a jersey that we would milk mornings for the family and put a calf on in the evenings, and about 8 laying...
