By looking at the picture, it looks like she got it right on the others. I have all these breeds and they look exactly the same. The rooster has a single comb otherwise i would have said he was a dominique, but still a beautiful bird none the less. He must be a barred rock.
This appears to be a Golden Comet ( Red Star, Red Sex Link, etc.) I've got eight of these and raised three from chicks. One of the parents is a New Hampshire or Rhode Island Red. I'm 99% sure of this.

This is actually a natural instinct for all breeds of chickens as well as fowl in general, even song birds. Unlike cats sharpening their claws, most fowl do this to clean their beaks and it gives the appearance of honing or sharpening their beaks which is false.
