Update: When I let her out this morning she passed a lot of yellow liquid. Still straining and closing her eyes looking unhappy. Going to bathe her today unless anyone suggests otherwise?
Hi all,
Haven't been online here for a while but am very worried about my brown shaver hen at the moment. With hindsight I have made a few mistakes/wrong judgements which I hope can be remedied. Sorry in advance for the long story but I thought it best to contain as much info as possible...
Thanks all! Reassuring to have consistent answers, now I don't have to worry about her having different needs or flying away :) Your pics are beautiful! I'll put up some new ones when I get the chance; we moved house last week and it feels like everything is still in a box!
Thank Tracey
3 of them are ducklings (2 x pekins and a muscovy adoptee) but I feed them all together now. Guess I will leave out the molasses from now on! Planning to start mixing in more kibbled maize into their crumble, although it seems to give my hens diarrhea (anybody else noticed this...
Hi all,
Just a quick question for you lovely people; the past few nights have been absolutely freezing (1-2C which is the coldest it's been since I've lived in NZ, I realise this is pretty warm for some of you ) and I have been feeling sorry for my poor ducks in this cold. When I give them...
Thank you! Either way she's awesome, I was just curious of her heritage. What are mallards like to keep? I didn't realise people kept them as flocks. Anybody else keep mallards?
Hi all,
I'm wondering if anybody has experience with muscovy/mallard crosses and could give their advice on this wee cutie. My boss found her(?) wandering around a field alone when she was a few hours old. She assumed it was a muscovy as she keeps a huge flock of muscovies and knew there were...
I can't speak for all but my drake (Robb) really surprised me by taking up a few fatherly duties while my muscovies were babies. I initially kept him separated from them but one day one of the ducklings wriggled though the fence into his pen. When I came out to do a head count I was horrified...
More pics! I've never seen the barring patter before (though this is only my 3rd batch a ducklings :D ) There are definitely at least 4 different colours; 1 pure white, 2 that started yellow and have now turned what looks to be black, 1 has a very pale chocolatey-silver, and another is a pale...
Thank you, it is indeed a beyblade arena (stroke of genius on my Dad's part, the ridges at the sides are perfect steps to ensure they could get out when they were tiny) and it's small enough to refill daily even when water is limited. I'm keeping a close eye on them still as fortunately I don't...
At long last I got some pics! Mum and babies doing well, we did lose one in the very early days (suspected rat or neighbour's cat, went missing within 10 minutes of being check on and was never found :( ) but the remaining 6 are happy, healthy and huge. Just getting to that phase where all they...
Sorry for the delay, and thank you very much! They are now happy and healthy with their mum, feed is a nice mix of chick starter with a tiny bit of cat food and vitamins mixed in. They're doing great! Will pop up some photos of them once I get home.
Thanks again for the great advice :)
