Little Mama with her 9 chicks. She is a good mother. Our family is having a lot of fun watching her take care of the babies.
Little Mama watching over snack time.
Little Mama in her new home with most of the chicks under her and one chick checking out an egg that is poking out. And yes jossanne these are pure Buff Orps. I have a pic of the daddy roo also. Thanks
21 days ago I put 12 eggs under Little Mama (She was my first pullet in my chicken addiction to lay an egg on 11-15-08). She also was the first to turn broody about 4 weeks ago and that is when I decided to give her an award for that egg back in November. Last night around 6PM CST her babies...
Sometimes a percent or two change in protein can cause diarrhea. In your case by going up I would probably do as digitS' post and add a little more scratch to compensate for the increase in protein. Happy New Year!
I'm sorry for your losses. I live in Central Kentucky and predators are a constant battle. This is a great site for all your poultry needs. Happy New Year!
I remember those days about 20 years ago BC (Before Children). Going to Oahu, Maui, and St. Croix (great memories). Maybe in 8 more years when the youngest will be out of college we can start back. Hopefully we will be in good enough health to enjoy. Have a great time and take a lot of pictures...
Beau coop sorry for the news however you did get a notice. You are right with the education system issue. We moved last year from NE Ohio and the teachers were bleeding the taxpayers to death with new levies every other month. When we moved my property taxes were almost 4 thousand a year. My...
I am having the same issue with some of my hens however about half are laying in the boxes and the other half on the floor in various places. I seeded my nest also and finally a few are using the top row of nests. Also I did not mention I took my nest off the wall and put on the floor. I read...
I would prefer a young 6 to 9 month cockerel but would take an older roo. I am staying with Buff Orps so I do not want to mix up the flock. I live in central KY and will travel an hour or two to pickup. If you do not have Buff Orps but know of someone who does please give me some contact info...
from Kentucky. We have family in your area who are missionaries (Eddie and Janet Ray). They used to be row crop and swine producers until Eddie was called to preach about 25 years ago. You have found a great site for information. Please post pics.
Thanks for the info. I live over toward Etown and will have to do a search for Versailles. I like the idea of fresh ground feed for the chickens. Also I wish I knew about the DE. I ordered a 50lb bag back in the summer and paid almost the same to ship it as it cost.
Mario49 sorry for your loss. I have been fortunate with my order back in May from Cackle. I ordered 15 and they sent 16 in June. All sixteen have made it so far and are doing great. They are maturing as expected at different rates and that is why I am presently getting 6 to 7 eggs a day. Two...
I've never tried another brand as I stated in my earlier post however I've not noticed the problems that Andora has had. Could be different management styles?
Congrats:)! I kept putting it off however I now have two heated dog bowls and a bulb type fountain heater in the coop. One of heated dog bowls is for the cats and they appreciate it as much as the chickens do. It almost seems to me that their amount of consumption went up as soon as I put these...
I am not from PA however we camped seasonally at Bay Shore on the Ohio side of Pymatuning from 2003 to 2007. We visited the PA side extinsively during the summer. Great state and great fishing! We moved from NE Ohio last winter and I miss the area. We met and still keep in contact with friends...
