I don't need show quality. I did that years ago with Belgian D'Anvers. My young girls are over 1 now but their eggs are much smaller than Lyla's. She is lighter in color and slightly larger but does have a larger egg.
My old hen Lyla is Lavender Ameraucana. Beautiful sweet and smart! I wanted to get some more like her but the breeder sold out his stock to someone else who only sold day old chicks - then lost all of them during hurricane Helene.
I have been looking for several years. Last Spring I found...
This afternoon she is okay but not at her peak. Makes weird head movements like trying to swallow. You know her comb is not pale…which has me rethinking the worms. I’m too timid to tune her. What about the 1/2 tsp of epsom salts in 1/2 cup water given orally 2 times a day?
@Wyorp Rock if the worms were the problem. how many days would you expect it to take to see results? She feels fairly marvelous. I’m just noticing that she’s not quite herself and she has an enlarged crop that’s rather squishy. She is eating and foraging. I’m on day three of the wormer.
Laying crumbles, free range for an hour or so a day, very small amounts of scratch - water
I treated her with the generic monistat 2 x a day for 7 days each time, plus coconut oil.
I wormed her with the goat wormer (1 x for one day) but I did NOT repeat it in 10 days??.....
She is doing the...
Friends, here we are again. Pearl has started to have crop issues again. I have treated this 3 times and it clears for a week or so. Then starts up again. I fear there is something major wrong. However, I did worm her once with the goat wormer and forgot to repeat. That might be a last ditch...
Friends, My Lavendar Americauna Hen Pearl has squishy crop again! This is the 3rd time in the last few months. I treat and the problem seems to clear up for about a week or two, then starts again. For her sake and mine, I fear I may need to cull her. Which I hate to do for both our sakes and...
Thanks all, after the squishy went away- she felt better but continued to have a hard crop in the morning. So I’m thinking impacted- so I isolated her at night and gave her some oil and massages for the next 3 days and she seems ok. Will be interested to see if the problem returns.
I’ve only done the wormer once. She felt awful the next day. I was able to isolate her last night- I’m thinking impacted crop more than sour. With only water access this morning her crop felt somewhat enlarged but firm like a tennis ball (not that big). However she feels sooo much...
Thank you, my goodness wormer for 5 days? I haven’t seen worms in her poop but just trying to cover my bases. Do I repeat that wormer dose for everyone.
Pearl is a 1 year old Lavender Ameraucana. She is laying. They stay in a clean coop/sand run. Water, laying pellets and oyster shells. 1 hour of free range each day.
A couple of weeks ago, she felt unwell and when I picked her up- foul liquid came out her mouth. The crop was very enlarged and...
So I rehomed all hens except 1 sweet older hen. She has been eating layer pellets. I can keep her out of my 6 week olds grower but I can’t keep them out of her food. She is laying- what do yall recommend?
My lavender ameraucana chickies are 5 weeks and 3 days old. Except for the smallest one (nugget) who is 5 days younger. I know it's too early but you know we drive ourselves crazy trying to guess! I would love your votes.
My guess: #1 (yellow) is a cockerel - redder comb, very bold
#2 (pink)...
