I want to thank you folks for all your good advice because today was the day!
And they were delicious!
And because there's always a balance, we likely won't be getting more for a little while as we just had a t-storm roll through and drop a bolt within a block of us. I'm sure the ladies...
Here's two of our three girls. The Jersey Giant is named Kung Pao, and the Barred Rock is Bang Bang.
Once again, I'd like to thank the folks on here for trying to help out with the one we lost. I guess we ***ked it up somewhere along the line. Life can be a real punt in the crotch some days...
No blood work, no necropsy. Unfortunately, fiscal liquidity isn't high at the moment. We were pressed to cover the visit and euthanasia. We did the best we could by her at this time. In future we will have the girls looked at for MD I hope. When things aren't as tight.
The vet seemed fairly...
The other girls seem hale and healthy. When we let them out to forage they tear after each other and flap around. They get about four feet in the air and can go about 12 feet across the yard (not at four feet mind, more like a foot).
Sesame weighed less than 2 pounds (747 grams) today at ~19...
I want to thank all those who were concerned about our girl, Sesame.
We took her to the avian vet in Indianapolis this morning, and she believes our assumption of Marek's was correct.
We didn't feel it would be right to make her wait and suffer until we got an appointment at Purdue to make...
So this is Sesame up close this afternoon. She's panting because it's hot. Maybe somebody can spot something I don't see. Taking her to the avian vet tomorrow, so yeah...
Sesame now has a private room (in the garage, closed. In a cat litter box full of bedding). Food and water within reach as she doesn't seem to be standing much just kind of flopping/flapping/kicking along. She's pretty much only a keelbone at the moment but she eats like a champ and is pooping...
Sick Chiken
So Sesame is still eating like a champ but after we cleaned her legs and feet, with a baby wipe, of yard waste (because she is inclined to sit) she now has a hard time standing at all. No sores, no blood, nothing broken (as far as I can tell). Mostly she's laying on her side...
Here's what she looks like today. She's been on medicated starter/grower til this week. It's a mix of showbird and s/g to extend it to layer feed next week. We've got vitamin/enzyme powder expedited for Saturday.
Here's a 1 minute video of how she's been behaving of late.
Third day of hand feeding Sesame warm mash and yogurt. Eating like a champ but while sitting mostly. See her comb?
And the poop she passed while eating.
Little perkier but still wobbly. At a loss. :/
Over the past few days I've done all you've described.
Vent is pink and free of pests, underside of feet are intact and supple (no lumps), leg scales are smooth and not not lifted anywhere, no rooster, no discharge at the vent or nostrils, our other 3 girls are jumping and flapping about the...
Is there any kind hearted soul in the bloomington area that has or knows where I can get food grade DE? We have a sickly bird that isn't responding to TLC well. We are starting down a list of treatments as we don't know the ailment. We're first time chicken folk.
She's lethargic (better now...
I did do that this morning as I thought it was impacted or sour but I couldn't find a 'squishy balloon' in her neck/chest area. In fact, she felt very thin in through there.
Did check around her vent, up close and personal, and did not see any mites/ticks/unholy abominations...
We are always...
