Yeah! I just love birds! We have a lot of various chickens, a few ducks, guineas, and two geese. Raising chickens actually guided me toward being vegetarian (and eventually vegan!)So it's a little awkward being back on this site. Anyway- I'm here today because we are adopting a 12 year old...
Here they are greeting me as soon as I get home from work <3
I love <3 my geese! We bought two fully grown last Memorial Day. They were very stand-offish/or aggressive at first, I started regretting to get them. Then one day, after a couple of weeks, I realized the goose was coming toward me...
I've tried a pyrethryn spray this past summer and it did not seem to help. I've used seven and DE. I must just not be doing a thorough job. I'll try to find a powder based pyrethryn formula to add to their dust bath, and dust individually.
Today I decided to give a couple of my hens some TLC - they needed a bath, big time.
I brought my orpington in and started giving her a bath, standard procedure, put her in a bucket of warm water and a little dish soap, lathered her up, rinsed her off, towel dried and blow dry. She...
This is not an official claim yet but...
I have some egg cartons I could ship out soon (I'll have to count how many I have & can fit in a box). Any takers? and I would claim the scoby (does it come with directions?)...
I was having a similar problem but broke my broody instead. You could try ordering from mypetchicken.com I think their min order is 3 chicks...
Good luck :)
A side swap? I'm in :)
Would you be interested in olive eggers?? I have oe eggs (oe roo over welsummers)
&/or
fbcm mix (most likely olive egger roo over fbcm) eggs
& how many eggs would you want for 1 heater? How about 2 heaters (save in shipping!!!)?
yay!!! I'm so excited they are hatching for you in your altitude!! I can't wait to see pics!! They mystery egg was a light brown/cream colored, right? I have a SL cochin, Light Brahma, Buff Brahma, White Silkie, Salmon Faverolle (have 5 toes) hmmm I think that is it...? I just love watching...
This is what her nest looks like:
It looks like she laid 1 too many eggs and can't fit them all. The space is about 6"x15" and the edge is about 6" tall so there's no way for the chicks to fall out.
Thanks- I know in nature they don't have a pesky human questioning their every move. I just get worried. I'd hate to see something bad happen that I could have prevented....
Ok/ Gramco does not have their own millet but they can order the white millet 50# bag for $44.00. I would be willing to split a bag with you if that is too much. Rabbit pellets are about the same price as chicken feed is (about $11.00) and changes weekly as well. I will be placing an order...
My bantam has created a nest in a little nook of my coop, 4' off the ground. I think once the chicks hatch they will be ok for a few days (they won't be able to fall out), but there is no room for me to put a feeder/waterer for the chicks. Will the mom be supplying the chicks herself? Should I...
You could use something other than hardware cloth- my bf works at a sign company and I used an unwanted banner to weave through the bottom two rows of fence. I just cut it to the 3"(?) size and zip tied each end to hold in place. It's not super pretty but it works! You might be able to think of...
Hey there Haida!
I will look into rabbit pellet and millet- how many bags total do you think you will want per month?
I can meet you in Henrietta no problem! I should be placing an order in a few weeks, but I have layer pellets available now if you wanted...
Hatching is so incredibly stressful for me!!! I used to do dry incubation but had extremely low hatch rates. More than once I had 0 hatch :(
so this last batch I put the sponge in the incubator and added water every now and then. I wasn't very scientific about it. Humidity usually stayed...
