Ringneck Pheasant info page *warning lots of PICS*

Can anyone help me figure out what is going on with my CRN hen? Two weeks ago I moved them into a new enclosure (after something killed the other four) that is way more secure (read; Fort Knox for Pheasant) . Yesterday I noticed she seems to sleep a lot, fluffs up her feathers even on the...

I have three barred rock pullets that are the same age (about three or four weeks old). Two are feathering in normally, one is very delayed and even her down is strange in texture and length. Anyone have any ideas? First pic is normal chick. Second is delayed.

    The Sussex thread!

Unfortunately not one egg hatched. I do have a few chicks ordered to come in about two weeks. I really wanted to hatch eggs though. I'm planning to order more chicks in a few weeks, want to stagger them a bit so I dont have to wait till October again with no eggs.

    The Sussex thread!

We're at Day 12 of our incubation and I'm still not sure if we're having chicks or stinky eggs? I don't smell any bad ones, yet. Should I be smelling something by now if there is a bad one? I did take out two that I'm sure are bad. The contents seem to be all mixed together and swirly, with...

    The Sussex thread!

I am so upset! One of our dogs mnaged to escape a six foot tall chain link enclosure, jump the chicken fence and kill all of my sussex hens and my barred rock hen. The only ones to survive were my easter egger hen, the sussex roo, and the easter egger roo. Now we start all over again in a few...

    Winterizing

Having a problem in my coop. I noticed blood smears on the outside of my aluminum feeder today. I haven't found any injuries to any of my birds, but the tips of my rooster's comb is darkened. Is he getting it stuck to the feeder while eating? And if so, what can be done to prevent this?

    I have 4 Speckled Sussex Roo's

Does it matter what age the rooster or hen is when you butcher them? I've had people tell me that once the birds are over 6 months old they will be tough. Is this just because maybe they didn't let their chicken rest before cooking them or does age really matter?

This is our first year with chickens. We have a small flock that consists of 8 SS hens who recently started laying, a SS Roo, a barred rock hen, an EE hen and an EE Roo. I would like to try hatching some eggs in the spring but have no clue what to do. Can someone walk me through a step by...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Interesting. How can you tell the difference? They were sold as americaunas. Not a big deal, they are only here as pets and to put eggs in my fridge. Do the eaater eggers get the beard and muff as well? The grey one has them starting but not so much on the peach girl.

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I started my chicken hobby in April with Speckled Sussex and I recently added two Americaunas. I'm not sure what the coloration is called, but one is peach with some tan and grey and the other is like a reverse, being mostly grey with some tan and peach. I also picked up a barred rock at the...
