have bought 2 different hovabators, 5 thermometer/hygrometers constant dismal hatch rate.

So I was way off on my altitude. I'm at 3500ish. So that's not the issue. However, I discovered something interesting yesterday. We threw some coturnix quail eggs into the incubator with this failed round of ducks as an afterthought, and they didn't hatch the day they were supposed to so I just...

have bought 2 different hovabators, 5 thermometer/hygrometers constant dismal hatch rate.

We have let our ducks and chickens do the work. I would say the hatch rate is better but not by much. The ducks tend to chuck their eggs out of the nest or murder them after hatch, the chickens tend to die after hatch. Not sure why-just find dead chicks.

have bought 2 different hovabators, 5 thermometer/hygrometers constant dismal hatch rate.

To clarify (this is the wife, my husband posted this on my account since he doesn't have one) we candle day 7 through 10 to throw out the duds, then we candle right before lockdown. So 16 for chicks, but of course it varies depending on what we are hatching. They are all from our own flock...

have bought 2 different hovabators, 5 thermometer/hygrometers constant dismal hatch rate.

Ok, here goes. We have been raising and hatching for about 9 years. We have often struggled with hatch rates. We have officially had the worst ever, at about 5%. First hovabator we used for 7 years. the "old style" had egg turner and fan. rate was not great, around 40% Last season, we bought...

Is it possible to breed a Heritage tom to a Broad Breasted hen, successfully?

I searched for a bit, prior to posting. I did not see any current or past posts that address and fully answer the question asked. I did find one post from many years ago, but it did not have a solid answer, with any results to confirm it. We are new to turkeys. We have purchased 7 altogether...

Call Ducks on Day 27-no pipping

I lost one last night, so I opened it up. The membrane was very hard and dry, and the yolk had not been absorbed. I went ahead and made a q-tip sized hole in the other three and have been moistening the membrane every couple of hours. I think I just lost another; I haven't seen any movement from...

Call Ducks on Day 27-no pipping

I candled them about an hour ago, which is when I saw the one trying to break free. The others are moving, but I can't see beaks. Will it hurt them to poke a small hole even if they haven't internally pipped?

Call Ducks on Day 27-no pipping

I don't think so, but I also had three thermometers that gave me three different readings, so the entire incubation period may have been too low. 98 on the very lowest side, 101 on the very highest. I figured it would be better to aim lower than to roast the poor things, so that probably...

Call Ducks on Day 27-no pipping

Here are some more photos of the others. I don't want to help them too soon, but I don't want to help them too late, either. One is actively trying to pip (I got a nice video of her little beak trying to poke it's way through). Everyone is still moving, but not quite as much as they were this...

Call Ducks on Day 27-no pipping

I have four call duck eggs in my still air incubator. They are on day 27 and still have not internally pipped that I can tell. Last year, all of my calls internally pipped on day 25 or 26, and I have not had a call duck hatch any later than day 27. Can someone put my mind at ease? I've candled...

    Incubating White Call Ducks

There was no "letting". I was holding her, she saw the water, jumped out of my hand and hopped in before I could stop her. Swam around, jumped out and I dried her off and heated up the rice pad. It was a tiny sandwich Rubbermaid tub with warm water in it, so she was fine. How long have you been...

    Incubating White Call Ducks

They are adorable! They've imprinted on me and my husband, so they follow us around everywhere. The littlest one is doing great now. Just three days after she hatched I took her out with the big ducks in their kiddy pool and she jumped right in and swam along with them. We ordered some black...

    Incubating White Call Ducks

Here is my baby Charlie. She is the newest. I had to hatch her by hand-she was very weak. Kept her with me everywhere I went, along with her heat up panda: And then there are Sally and Violet. Sally hatched on Easter Sunday, with a little bit of help, and Violet hatched a couple days after...

    Incubating White Call Ducks

brewchick We have three babies. We hatched four, lost one.. The weather here has been so crazy we can't seem to keep our temp where it needs to be, so we've lost more than anything. Right now we have a couple ready to hatch any day now and it looks promising. Thanks for all your help!

    Angel Wings from yolk?

We had a call duck hatch yesterday morning. She struggled to hatch, was very week when she finally did. My husband thinks she may have angel wings, but she is only a day old and not quite old enough to have developed this from lack of nutrients in her food. Is it possible for ducks to develop...

    Incubating White Call Ducks

Our first duck hatched last week, and another last night! We have two more due in the next couple of days. You're probably right, the 80 percent humidity was for a different incubator.

    Incubating White Call Ducks

Ah, that makes sense. I think I was combining methods from two different forums. The other said keep them at 80 percent from day one, which is impossible for me to do anyway. I'll keep the humidity down from now on. What would you suggest if you have duck eggs from different stages all in the...
