Hi Nicole - I'm in the exact same place you were when you posted this! I'm bummed to see that no one responded.... I've heard there is no reason to toss the eggs.
What did you end up doing? Did you re-treat in 10 days?
Count me in to try it too!!!
We currently have 3 Roos and one neighbor who has gently complained. I have been searching for a home for 2 of the boys. I like having at least 1 around to protect the girls! Anyway - is love to try a humane way of quieting their announcements. Happy to video...
Oregonkat:
Yes, I was planning to take them home after they hatched anyway.
I did drive them home yesterday and we have a webcam set up and the kids are all watching and commenting! It's going well. None have pipped but they are moving and shaking and occasionally chirping!
What would you do?
My 7 eggs in my daughter's 6th grade science classroom are due to hatch tomorrow. I live in CT the forecast tomorrow is for 12", we will get 16" in our little 5 mile radius. I am pretty sure there will be no school tomorrow and perhaps Thursday too.
Do I bring the...
Thank you for your words of encouragement! I appreciated the quick response.
I had planned to start assisting that afternoon, but unfortunately, my 9 yo daughter had an accident at a friend's house and we ended up in the ER getting stitches in her foot. (She is fine) Anyway, this delayed my...
Hi - I have one egg that hasn't hatched (out of 7). Today is Monday, 9am. Day 21 began Friday night at 10pm, so it is day23 and 12 hours. The last in the group hatched Saunday 10am. I candled this last egg and it has a sizable air sac, there is still movement, but no peeping. I can't tell...
Hi - I see this thread is a few years old, but I am using this bator for the first time. Today is Day 21 and although I stopped them from rotating on day 19, I didn't remove the disc. I just realized this and am concerned that the disc will keep the chicks from shifting position. Should I...
Thanks for the advice and well wishes! Clover has been back with the flock since Tues night when I snuck her in. She has suffered a few pecks to her comb but is holding her own. She is def more comfortable grazing and exploring when we are out with her. She otherwise keeps to herself.
Thanks...
Well, when I first looked in on them this morning, Clover (the injured one) was roosting next to our roo and everyone looked perfectly happy! But at lunchtime, I noticed that she wasn't out exploring with the others. She was hiding in a nesting box and both of her cuts had opened and had a...
I have a 1yr old buff orpington hen that I separated from the flock (of 9 hens and 1 roo) bc she had 2 huge gash in her head. I nursed her back to health and the feathers are growing in. I have placed her in the area where the chickens free range but kept her in a dog crate and the other...
Hi Everyone,
I mis-read the manual and thought that the cooling was another automatic feature that started on day 7 and stopped 2 days before hatch. So unfortunately, I turned the cooling feature ON when I set up my incubator. Today, Day 4, I happened to glance at the temp and noticed it was...
Thanks for the input. I did discover that there is about a 1.5 degree difference between the bottom of the bator and resting the thermometer on the raised middle (the water compartment). So I just set my eggs in. I have the bator set for 100.7 which reads 99.2 at the raised middle. As for...
Hello - I am borrowing this incubator from a friend who purchased it in 3/15 and successfully hatched chicks last spring. After reading your comments on calibration, I placed the thermometer/hygrometer from our snake's enclosure into the incubator. After a few hours, it read about 92 degrees...
Hi Everyone - We are planning to relocate our coop/run to a large fenced area (prob 2/10 acre) the have for our dogs. They will have their coop and an 8'x12' run and I will let them out to "free-range" inside the fenced area. The fence is 7ft high and I have never seen anything but chipmunks...
Can you tell us the dimensions of the coop and the run please? I have loved your coop since I was doing my initial research before getting chicks 3 years ago. I keep coming back to this post every once in awhile to see how beautiful a coop CAN be! We are planning for a larger coop this spring...
Great thread to read through.
I just adopted a 18 week old barred rock/brahma buff mix that I am isolating for now but plan to add to my flock. I have 3 hens that are 14 mos old as well as a roo and a pullet that we hatched that are 19 weeks old. I am hoping that the similarity in age of the...
Hi everyone!
Of my 6 chicks, I am pretty sure 3 are pullets (#1-3) but I want to confirm that. The other 3 (#4-6) I'd like to get a concensus on. My daughter helped me take a head shot and full body shot of each one. I bought fertilized eggs from a local farm that are a mix of Americauna, RIR...
