Update...on Monday we found a dead emu chick outside of Edward's nest and an egg that appeared to have been stepped on with a chick inside outside of nest..Edward had kicked out a few more of the eggs and they were cold...he was sitting on 15.we took 4 eggs out from under him that were warm and...
This is so crazy..after he got off the nest and we pulled out the eggs he started sitting on the next egg the female layed. He now has eight eggs under him..all layed 3 days apart so there is a 21 day difference between the first and last egg and female is still laying and he is still grabbing...
Hmmm. While the male (Edward) was sitting and the female (Edwina) continued too lay..he would scoop up the egg and put it in his nest..I had the bright? Idea of marking the eggs in the nest so any new egg I could pull out and drain and use for crafts..believing it to be infertile...it was...
I'm confused ..she was still laying eggs while he was sitting..I think about 4...do you think they are fertile? I'm going to start taking the new ones and then going to incubate..hopefully she will keep laying! Thanks for your help!
Thanks for info! Unfortunately we didn't know he had left the nest until it was too late to put in our incubator. Supposedly he is around 6 years old..we are the 3rd home of his so I don't have any background info,,,,the female is still laying every third day but I don't think they are...
We are egg cited ..we have 4 ostrich eggs in our reptile pro 6000 incubator..we put them in a room with fresh air flow via two windows open, a ceiling fan and not latching door of incubator so humidity is running 25 in incubator and room 28. We are turning manually every 4 hours. We have them...
I am so envious!! I can't wait to try again with Ostrich..probably mid-June..just gonna keeping taking in all the great advice and success stories and give it my very best!!
Congrats on the EMU's!! So cool! I'm actually thinking about drilling extra holes in the incubator so there is more ventilation..which would be easy with Little Giant, but not so easy with Reptipro 6000. I too will be dedicating my summer vacation to manually turning eggs.
I don't know what kind of ostrich eggs we had. As far as the humidity in the Reptipro 6000.. The eggs themselves were hiking up the humidity level so we would crack open its door..we didnt add any water so by cracking open the reptipro door..it would release some humidity..we were fluctuating...
