Agreed! Will definitely be getting more stone. And yes, if you cross your eyes wrong at the lawn, it dies...it's about a 15- 20 foot wide swath of lawn between the two fences, so it gets tons of traffic. I'd also like to hide my neighbor's fence a bit. There is a good grassy area behind the...
Yeah, this area is a tough one. The lawn really struggled to come back last summer, it doesn't get much sun, and with it getting walked on, it is straight dirt In from of the opening for the run. :-( this is from last spring, as you can see, it's now very shaded, and a lot of this grass is...
I want to be sure to keep some things living/ green so it looks nice. Perhaps I will widen the area I had decided I would landscape with berry plants (I would love to keep them out of my raspberries, blueberries and black currants!!! And then do wood chips with some flagstone to run the area...
Hi there! We do urban chickening, and have given over half of our yard to be exclusively the girls. They do free range the whole yard, but, occasionally lock them just on their side. They also have a coop and enclosed run. The coop and run are not part of our issue. Our problem is the...
I am guessing you are right. Definitely sounded like a partially blocked airway. She spent the day kinda panicking I think. :-(. We finally found her (kitten, actually) Hidden in our closer. He didn't hurt her, just let us know where she was. She showed zero interest in eating or drinking...
Hey, thanks for the response. :). No pasty bum going on, was definitely a respiratory thing of some kind. Brought her in and she sneezed several times, but nothing coming out the nose... So bizarre. As she calmed down, so did the noise. Almost sounded like someone having an asthma attack...
Hi there,
We recently (2 weeks ago) gave one of our silkies a few babies from a well respected feed store (who got them from a hatchery). They had not been exposed to any adult birds prior to ours, and no one but adult employees handled them. One of the babies was fine yesterday, but is now...
She's a pretty girl! I am no expert though on body shape or quality. ;). I just know what I like, and beautiful babies are what I like to have running around our urban farming back yard. If you are concerned with breeding I would see about getting someone knowledgeable from this thread or the...
I wouldn't worry about the darker feathers, personally, they may go away when she molts all her big girl feathers. ;). And mine are a lighter shade than my Orpington. My buff laced lays a lighter creamy latte' color with dark speckles , and my gold laced lays only ever so slightly darker eggs. ;)
What beautiful babies! Are they the buff colored ones? We started off with two, and sadly had to get rid of them because they were roo's, but we loved them so much we decided to try again and got more. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do! Chickens are such amazing creatures! They bring our...
Lol! Honestly, I didn't care whose line. When I saw the buff laced and saw that my guy had them, I had to have one. He was the one who had talked me into the gold laced. Said her coloration would only get better. He was totally right. The buff (Lacey) is pretty and unusual, but you have to...
Looking back at my info on her. They are both from Dan Powell lines. I know the breeder got a lot of his rare stock from Greenfire farms. Here's another example of a GL brahma- also DP line. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/638190/my-dan-powell-gold-laced-brahma-pair
She is all gold laced, her feathers are just faded right now because she is close to her first full adult moult. :). She is gorgeous with the gold coming through, and green/purple beetling on the black.
Thank you, Wendy!! I love our big girls. Watching them run across the lawn when I call is HYSTERICAL! The buff is from Dan Powell line. Wish I had gotten more before our breeder decided to retire!
Wooooo-hooooo!!! Thank you! I guess I will do a final update when she lays an egg or crows. ;). Can't stand the posts that leave you gender hanging! ;)
We have two brahmas in our mix of breeds. They are beautiful big fluffy girls. We're still waiting for their first real molt, but their patterning is lovely, and should be even more so once they get new feathers! We have a gold laced and buff laced. Callie is our gold laced, and Lacey is our...
I will see if I can get another picture later today. Copper is starting to get some beautiful light hints of copper. And you are right, not really seeing any of the hackles or pointy feathers yet, and getting some rounder feathers near the tail, which was what made me think again. She/he has...
