One baby is out! and another 2 have started zipping
Hubby called and said he hasn't forgotten the batteries this time, so hopefully in a few hours I'll get some pics taken and posted
Mama is being so sweet to her babies, it's just adorable
#1 has hatched and is drying under mama, #2 has started zipping and there are 2 that have pipped the other 3 aren't pipped, but I'm sure all the commotion under mama will wake them up hopefully they're still alive.
Congrats everyone, I hope mine start hatching soon.. I lost the mama hen ( my favorite little Henny ) of a couple of the eggs that are under broody today (predator attack last night/early morning I'm guessing)... So I'm hoping for something good to happen soon..
Thanks you guys... And Gabriel, that was a beautiful poem.. thank you so much for sharing it...
I'm hoping that at least one of her eggs that's under broody makes it, maybe I'll have her daughter to follow me around and keep me company. Should be on day 19 now and mama's starting to coo at the...
First off, I'm just having a really really BAD day... I'm running on like an hour of sleep combined because yesterday my lab got into some cooked chicken bones, shredded them up and both the lab and the pug ate them. So they kept me up off and on last night having to go potty and my pug (12 yrs...
Ok so I couldn't help myself last night and I candled the remaining 7 and I saw chickie feet! They're all super active and kicking Thought I'd share, mama hen even seemed happy. I let her watch too and she didn't growl, she just made some gentle cooing noises at them
NOW hopefully hubby...
OK Down to 7 eggs now, had 2 quitters but the rest show lots of movement and strong veining so I'm gonna try to leave them alone until the 15th. Although they do look a little bigger than I think they should at 13 days, so maybe they'll be coming early.
Just thought I'd pop in and say hi and congrats to all the expectant and new parents here . Hubby and I will be trying here in about 2 years (sooner if I get my way lol) so I'm sure I'll be on here at one point or another.
I think in situations like this, the fresher the better (not to be to crude/cruel sounding). But the latest one to die I think would be a good option. Not sure about freezing, I'm sure someone on here could chime in about that. But most certainly get in touch with the vet and ask what the best...
The CDC is the Center for Disease Control, and they could probably not only help you identify the disease but would be able to send someone to that hatchery to run tests, etc.. Avian Encephalomyelitis doesn't seem to be a zoonotic disease, but they should at the very least be able to point you...
If they're sooo convinced their birds are 100% healthy then they should have no problem with providing PROOF of such. I would personally contact maybe the CDC or someone of that nature and let them know. I only say this because god knows how many other people out there have had this problem that...
I'm sorry I couldn't come up with a better possibility than that. Don't blame yourself for this. If you can, take one of the dead chicks for a necropsy, if they'll do it. Just to, at the very least, try to confirm what the disease is.
