Just acquired 2 sets of Crested Cream Legbars - they have an amazing disposition. Very friendly and mixed 4 of these 5 week olds with my 2 week old chicks (as I only have one heated pen set up at the moment) and they instantly bonded. Nothing like the pecking I've seen introducing chickens to...
I don't know if I can load a video here of my Giant Black Jersey just hatching out of it's shell...but I will try! The video is on my Heritage Egg Farm Facebook page if it fails... nope, can't load it as it's not on YouTube or Vimeo.
I was given this Australorp as an 8 week old and now that it's a year old I'm noticing it's size, as it towers over all other species and the bottoms of it's feet are a pale yellow. Is this also a Giant Jersey? I have GJ hens but never had a Rooster - what do you all think?
My smaller Jersey's (2) are laying light colored Medium eggs but mostly the 10-13 Lb girls
lay XL or Jumbo....Here's a pic of my scale and it always hit's bottom with most it goes to 30oz, they weigh between 30oz & 33 oz...
The original picture in question "Chantecler7" was if there was any Partridge Chantecler's in the bunch or even mixed breeds as a few were sold to me as Chantecler Chicks...therefore it was in this thread.
Hi Mariva, yes the one on the right is my Bryngyld Ameraucana Cockerel and the one on the left is a Black Copper Marans Cockerel. I am breeding them both and will have new chicks and fertilized eggs next year. I'm working on a breed that does best in my area with hot summers and cold winters -...
Thanks Extra Java! Thats exactly what I want to do...work on a breed that is friendly, adaptable to the hot/cold climate, a great egg producer and tasty too! I'll be working with them for a few years :) I'm wondering where the yellow legs came from as Marans and Chanteclers have charcoal legs...

The only other chickens the lady had at the time were Black Copper Marans & Partridge Chantecler's. The pullets are lighter as pictured below, but very different as well.. they are not laying yet so I don't know the egg color. They are beautiful and very friendly - a joy to have around the yard!
I was sold "Partridge Chantecler's" way back in a post...then it was suggested I had Partridge Brahma's, well now that they are 4.5 months old, I've been told I have Auburn Java's - what do you think? They have cushion combs and 2 out of the 4 have feathered feet. They are all brothers...I'd...

I have 8 Giant Jersey's and they are all wonderful I fully agree with Happy Houdan & CAjerseychick...with all of their excellent qualities. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with them, but I hope it doesn't deter others from enjoying the amazing JG's!
So you can never really eat a full grown Giant Jersey without it being tough? I thought they grew in stature and frame for the first year and then beefed up with muscle & breast in their second year? Butchering the chicken that early, will it even be worth eating?
