I've had chicks drop dead too. Also, a very strange mixed breed !
In July, I had 3 hens surprise me w/ 15 chicks (I didn't think the eggs would hatch & left them for the broody hens) ! There was 1 black & one white Silkie, & a lg. black Australorp. Having gotten rid of a lg., nasty rooster some weeks before, I'm pretty sure he's not the dad. That leaves 1 buff...- sr999

Chicks with closed eye, occasional "gulping", then death. PLEASE HELP!
I have had 5 chicks die on me after showing the above symptoms. I've raised a multitude of chicks from just hatched on up. This is the 1st time this has happened to me.
