    So Sad!

Hi Jak, I happened to come across this post while searching for different types of aviary people have for their quails. Well I saw the picture you posted and I wanted to ask if you'd be able to share the full picture of the cage you keep your quails in. We're in the process of making an...

    Quail tank/aquarium?!

I keep my quails in tanks & use wood shavings as bedding. Making sure the lids are secured is important, especially for button quails. They are quite flighty. I lined the underside of the lid with towel/netting. Cos when they jump when spooked, they can get their heads pretty banged up :/ And...

Quail chick with a wry neck? - Advice needed

Hi kmkr79! Thanks so much for your advice. Really appreciate those tips! I brought over one of the older chicks to be with the lil one. And boy, was he stoked! Not sure about the one I brought over though :p But the last I checked they were snoozing side by side. Saw how the big one...

    Quail screaming after laying?

My coturnix quail does the egg call, before & after laying. However, my two button hens lay without a sound. The only way I know they are about to lay is when they are flinging bedding material over themselves. My button hens started laying 2 weeks apart from each other. I was hoping the one...

Quail chick with a wry neck? - Advice needed

Thanks for the reply! It does seem like it's gonna be ok :) Running around a lot (doing laps today it seems) and he's able to hold his head up a lot longer. The other chicks in the brooder are a lot older by about 10 days. Though they are able to see each other through the divider, I'm not sure...

Quail chick with a wry neck? - Advice needed

Hello! We have a chick that hatched yesterday. It took a long time after its first pip to finally unzip itself. We found its neck was bent over as though it was still in its shell :( We've not seen anything like it before! It tried very hard to stand and walk but it kept tumbling over itself...

    Chicks die in brooder help!

did you check the water supply? if it is too deep and wide, they will drown if they dip their beak too deep into the water. many can die like this because the chicks haven't learnt to drink properly.

5 day old chick with heavy droopy wings

We just hatched our first batch of quail chicks about 6-5 days ago and just noticed that 1 of them who is the youngest of the batch is having very heavy/droopy wings and is propping itself up by letting the wings hold it steady. So it's not moving around a lot. We noticed that if we carried it...

    Low-tech Incubator

Does anyone know how to assemble a low-tech incubator? This is for a homestead quail farm in a village in Myanmar where there isn't always a ready source of electricity. We're looking at a capacity of 80 to 100 quails. There are 3 seasons in Myanmar: Cold & Dry (Nov-Feb): 20-24deg celsius...

    Quail chick is squawking!

Hi, thought I'd update :) After more observations, we realised that this poor chick has been sneezing/coughing after every time it drinks. We noticed that it has a tendency of dipping its beak way deeper in the water than necessary resulting in water getting into its nostrils! Poor thing...

    Quail chick is squawking!

The chick is otherwise well and active. Similar to the other chick. The sneezing seems dry but it occurs quite frequently throughout the day. For bedding, I'm using paper towels and it gets changed daily. It used to peep like the other chick but now it's just making this squawk-like sounds. I'm...

    Hello from Singapore!

Hi, my husband and I are involved in community projects in Myanmar. We are currently exploring homestead quail farming and learning a lot from this forum. We find ourselves fascinated with quails ever since we were given a pair of Coturnix chicks. We have with us also, a dog and 2 cats and lots...
