    Turkey Feed

Thanks! So if I were to do a breeder pair to hatch from next year would I keep them on flock raiser for their entire adult life, and supplement the hen during the laying season with oyster shell?

    Turkey Feed

I am trying to decide whether or not to order a couple turkeys for my 4-h project. I already own/show duck and chickens. What feed to the turkeys eat at different stages. And does anybody have any tips about anything turkey for me?

Actually 4-H has a program for kids younger than the regular 4-H, called cloverbuds. The kids can't show animals at county fair but they get to help out, watch, and learn the ropes. And there are usually cloverbud classes (which means they can show) at other shows. (i know our county doesn't...

    Guesses on what she is?

I know this is a kind of old thread but I thought I might add something. I ordered 2 lakenvelder pullets from mcmurray and they look just like this, I guess next time I am going to have to order from a breeder.

    I don't know what's wrong!

There are mixed reviews. I personally use it and LOVE it. It also cuts down on smell. Although I havent had mites/lice in my own flock, I use DE as a preventative measure. So I cant say whether it treats it very well. Some people say DE doesnt help. But if you have it on hand it might be worth...

Are you able to look at her wings? How old is she?

It's not as scary as it sounds, as long as your animals have proper housing. Every body may lose a bird every now and then but (knock on wood) I have had chickens and rabbits for 4 or 5 years and I haven't lost any to predators. But I do live on the edge of town. But there are woods and...

If you don't see mites/lice then could you maybe take a photo of her wing out stretched? Then based on her wing feathers you can tell if she is molting or is going to molt. Or at least that's what I have been taught through 4-H.

Ooh I didn't even think about the skunks, possums, and birds of prey! We have those too.

She probably molting or has mites/lice then. Check her vent for mites/lice. To do that you look at you look at the base of the feather and look for white/brown clusters on the feathers, similar to the way lice is on human hair. (No chicken lice won't transfer to you.) Mites/lice usually go for...
