2015 Greetings!
I pray that all is well with you and your farm. I ordered some of your Silkie eggs last year. Out of 6 eggs, 4 males and 1 female hatched. I was amazed at the hatch rate.
Now I need some lavender Ameraucana eggs. Look for my order on Monday.
Yes, they are said to be evolved from T-rex and it shows because they are great predators. They are on everything that moves. My chickens had a snake surrounded one day, and we all know how crazy roosters are. So chickens are far from being cowards. Just a little cautious at times.
It is hard when you dont have a rooster, but I have tried caging my aggressive birds with some progress. The one's who were in the coop first are gonna act up. If is best to start off with the docile breeds then introduce the more aggressive breeds to the coop after the docile ones have made...
sometimes chicken of different age groups and sizes fight. The bigger and older will pick on the smaller, younger ones. You have to separate them until the little ones are big enough to defend themselves.
I have a chicken coop for sale (8-10 chickens) $150 obo, and also some 1 year old Golden Laced Wyandottes for sale (lay year round) $25 obo. 904-379-3016
2 Golden Laced Wyandottes for sale. Great layers, lay year round. Healthy, clean, fed Purina laying feed, scratch, fruit, vege's, plus they free-range. Lay extra large brown eggs. I got 2 new chicks, so have to replace 2 birds. Both use to being handled and held. $25 each or best offer...
I would say follow your heart, but instead follow your knowledge. As a beginner it may be best to start off small and work your way up so you can learn and grow. I wanted to know as much as possible (even though I had experience as a child, things change), so that I could develop a routine to...
I like it so far, it takes a little work to maintain the humidity. I cut a sponge into a strip and placed it into the well on the bottom of the bator, and use a funnel with a straw taped to it to add water to the sponge or well as needed.
Started a group of Silkies today, 13 Total.
Little Giant 9200, egg turner, computer fan added. Temp. 100 degrees, Hum. 25.
Wanted dry incubation but may have to add water to maintain a 30%-35% humidity.
That is wonderful Xovan, I had 1 chick hatch yesterday, this is the 22nd day and none of the others started to pipe. I got 2 buff orpington chicks to keep her company because she did not like being alone. They all seem to get along well.
How did your hatch go? I have one that piped on the 19th( day (sun) then nothing until the 21st day (today). Now she is piping but the membrane is dry and I am not sure she will get out, nothing from the other 6 eggs, no piping. Although they seemed perfectly fine on lock down day. I guess...
I know what you mean. I had a chick pip last night (day 19) and then nothing, I am driving myself cra-cra by checking every 2 hours. Patience is a virtue that seems to slip away when I need it the most.
Im sorry, I said I use the bulbs for reptiles but it is the ceramic plates, they screw into a light socket, but is a black, flat ceramic plate that heats up without light. Just be careful because the plates get hot and you have to keep it a good distance from the chicks. I ordered mines from...
