Brinsea Octagon 20 Advance EX with automatic Humidity Pump and Trader Joe eggs

Hopefully all is going well. I have an automatic pump and I DO NOT fill the reservoirs with water at all. The automatic pump is more than efficient. Good luck with your hatch.

What kind of rooster is this?

I was just gifted this beautiful rooster. The owner couldn't keep him because of a cranky neighbor (even though roosters are allowed where she lives). Anyway, I had intended him for my stewing pot until I saw him. He is absolutely huge and gorgeous and I didn't have the heart to send him to...

Question about making a PVC feeder.......

This is what my husband built for me. It works very well and there is no waste. Also he used the cheaper drain pipes rather than PVC. The whole thing cost less than $20 and when I fill it up with food, it lasts almost 2 weeks for 11 chickens.

Brinsea Octagon 20 Advance EX with automatic Humidity Pump and Trader Joe eggs

Congrats on your purchase. I definitely had problems setting up myself and not much sympathy from the Brinsea customer service but, once I set up the first one, I had no problems setting up the next one. It is a little tricky and I wish Brinsea would make a how-to video. That being said...

My coop and run area for my girls!

That's good. My chickens are behind my garage too and my husband constantly complains of flies, even though I clean a lot. I blame the dogs for the flies myself LOL

My coop and run area for my girls!

How do you deal with the flies with the coops being so close to your house? Where in So. Cali are you? Your chicks are beautiful.

    incubating new eggs

Hi there, I just set 28 eggs in my incubator right now. I always have my temp at 99.5 degrees and humidity at 45%. I don't raise the humidity until lockdown and then I set it to 65-68 (depending on how many eggs I'm incubating). I always have good hatches. I have even better hatches now that...

Does organic feed provide all necessary things for laying?

Also, as an aside, my chickens are never sick, have had no diseases and I have never medicated them so I personally would never feed anything other than organic. The price I pay is worth not having to pay a vet's bill.

Does organic feed provide all necessary things for laying?

The company is Modesto Milling. If you order directly from the company I think its about $24 for a 50 lb bag but the shipping charges will knock your socks off :) You can go on their website and see if they have a distributor where you live. If the feed you are using works for your dad then I...

Does organic feed provide all necessary things for laying?

These are the ingredients in the the feed I use. If its only 1 hen not laying, then I wouldn't worry about it. * Organic Layer Pellets or Crumbles #5998 Use: Layer pellets are formulated to be a complete feed, but are also useful as part of a pasture-based diet. Layer pellets can be fed...

Does organic feed provide all necessary things for laying?

I have always fed organic feed for all my chickens right from when they are born and it has not stopped laying at all. I use Modesto Milling organic foods which runs about $33 for a 50lb bag. I also supplement with organic sunflower seeds as a treat and extra omegas etc. I also grow organic...

    Preparing for my girls!

If you can afford it, go for the Brinsea brooder. It is fantastic. My chicks were already jumping on top of brooder from week 1 so I had to put something they could roost on. I also always put a little box (or foil tray) with a mixture of soil/sand and a some DE from about week 3 so they can...
