The eggs, so far come in a variety of darkness. But, most of them have beautiful little dark specks on them. Right off we have 3 hens that are brooding. Pretty encouraging!! I would love to add a dark Maran to get darker eggs but, I'm not too concerned with it.
We are raising 30 Cuckoo Marans and we love them! They are huge birds and very sweet! Have only been pecked at once and I was clipping wings when it happened. I can understand that!
Anyway, does anyone have any pictures of their Cuckoo's? Would love to see more!!
They are now 6...
Try layer feed also. But if it's cold, it does slow them down. I get eggs on a regular basis now. But, it took a few weeks for them to really get comfortable. Could also have to do with age.
Normal behavior. When I first brought mine home, the bigger ones really bullied the younger, smaller ones. They are figuring out their "pecking" order so to speak. Also, if you spread out the feed for a few days out on the ground they will all be able to peck at it, at their leisure. Then...
I can thank you so much!! For some reason when I click someone's page, I can't see anthing except the threads they are in. Probably doing something wrong.

Thank you so much for your kind words. :) Here's the outside...I wrote a story about our coop building experience last year. We had a great time with it. It's a children's playhouse kit, in the design of an old school house, that we converted to a coop, to which we added an enclosed run. Hence...
i have wondered about a large amount of chickens and the Sweet PDZ. I am in the process of building a large coop 8'x16' and doing a large enclosed run, cause we have lost too many to raccoons recently. So, we are building Fort Knox. My friends call it the Chicken Palace. So, anyway, enough...
So Trish, I am guessing yours are about 12" high? [/quote I love the inside of this coop. Do you have any pics of the outside? I'm working on ours right now. It's much larger 16' X 8' and I'm looking for ideas on venting, painting, and roosting area.
Well, I finally caught one of the hens ripping at Rocky's neck and pulling out his feathers. She has actually cut him. Silly rooster sits and puts up with it. I'm shocked cause he usually won't allow silliness from the girls. Any ideas on how to stop her from defrocking him?
So, why wouldn't you have to clean it more frequently? Wouldn't the smell get horrible? I'm new at this and we are constructing our coop right now to put our sweet babies in soon. So, I'm very interested in anyones help with this too.
